Question about Mitch Hyatt. Since various services have

Mar 28, 2017, 7:45 PM

started rating high school recruits, my guess is Mitch is the best OL we ever signed. And, he has lived up to his billing. It is unheard of for a freshman to start at left tackle. Especially on one of the best two teams in the nation these past two years.

This is showing my ignorance, but, will he be a high first round pick, a first round pick, or what, next year?

Walter Football released a very early 2018 Mock Draft last month that had both Hyatt and Wilkins going in the first round. For Hyatt, I'd say it depends on his continued growth in size and strength. In my opinion, barring any serious injury or an uncharacteristically poor season, it's a solid bet we will see Hyatt go early (Round 1 or 2) next year if he leaves.

Wilkins is almost a guarantee.

Wouldnt be surprised to see at least 1 of them staying 4 yrs

If not both. Hyatt could make himself a 1st rounder if he stays 4 years. Wilkins will be a 1st rounder after next year, he just strikes me as the kind who enjoys his college years and may enjoy a senior year, especially if we have potential to win another championship

Agreed. Both of them could be staying two more years and I would LOVE that. Hyatt probably could benefit more from an extra year.

I would be shocked if Wilkins is back for 2018.***

Off topic a little but their 2017 updated draft shows dashaun taken by Pittsburgh #30 pick and the 3rd QB picked.
Hmmm

I think he'll be in the first round discussion. I don't think he'll be considered as a top ten pick at all. Where he ends up going well be heavily determined by his combine workout. I'm not sure he has the explosiveness to stick at LT in the NFL which is where he needs to play to be considered a high first round pick.

he has been so good at his job, you rarely hear his name called out. The guy never takes a play off and never misses his assignment. Helps that he is a great athlete too.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say 3rd round pick due to average athleticism at the pro level and lack of power; his technique will likely be in his favor.

just a true sophomore, nothing wrong with his footwork.

There is always a very high demand for left tackle, I think he goes in the first round for sure. Especially considering who he has game film against and he went his whole freshmen year without a holding call if I'm not mistaken
