Pulling a Clemson - huh

Aug 27, 2012, 2:45 PM

I admit we havent been perfect lately but the lexicon of "pulling a Clemson" I find perplexing.

VT lost at home to James Madison and Michigan lost at home to App State. They never got labeled with Pulling an anything.

why does Clemson get this treatment from primarily the ESPN hacks

Because all media hates you and wants to destroy you.

Duh.

Seen your own message board lately, Coot?

Your snarky responses fail to really make a point, because they lead to hypocritical conclusions...i.e. implying you Coots don't play the victim card every chance you get.

This is just a hair below string theory

No, we opened with Troy and finished 2 and 4 after an 8-0

Aug 27, 2012, 3:13 PM

cause ESPN loves to watch us fall on are face screw ESPN they are alot of the problem with stuff goin on in college football go tigers

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well it was never about losing one game

Aug 27, 2012, 3:35 PM

Its about starting hot only to fade at the end of the season, not that we're the only team that does that either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because it's been happening to Clemson w/ consistency

Aug 27, 2012, 3:43 PM

unlike the other teams you mentioned. You can go back every year for the last umpteen years and find all of these #####, face-palm, ridiculous losses to clearly inferior opponents that should never happen. Also to a lesser extent, folding down the stretch. I'm not referring to typical losses, such as the GT game last year. Sometimes you just have a bad game. But there's having a bad game and then there's completely not showing up whatsoever/folding. Clemson is notorious for this, especially against inferior opponents (Duke '04 is the best example, NCSU '11, BC '10, UMD '09...etc) and that's why we've earned the label.

Florida State?***

Utter domination of the 90s bought them a lot of slack***

Aug 27, 2012, 3:48 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So what they did over 20 years ago got them slack.

Aug 27, 2012, 3:52 PM

The funny part of that is they only have one more national title than us, and three less conference titles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well it probably helps that...

Aug 27, 2012, 3:55 PM

FSU has had 10 or so 10+ win seasons, 12 conference championships, and 2 national championships since 1991 (our last 10 win season and conference title before this past season).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, might not be totally fair, but perception is reality,

Aug 27, 2012, 3:56 PM [ in reply to So what they did over 20 years ago got them slack. ]

and that's the perception 'round the nation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you really comparing ACC tittles with a school that

Aug 27, 2012, 4:10 PM [ in reply to So what they did over 20 years ago got them slack. ]

joined the ACC almost 40 years behind us? Our 40 year headstart got us a 3 game lead and you're bragging about it?

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They had a nice little run while we slowed down.

Aug 27, 2012, 4:47 PM

Now they're slowing down and we're about to go on another run.

The point wasn't to compare championships, it was to show they haven't done anything with their lofty expectations in 20 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Where do you get 20 years from? They played in the NCG

Aug 27, 2012, 5:11 PM

3 years in a row from 98 to 2000...That was 11 seasons ago...

Re: Pulling a Clemson - huh

Aug 27, 2012, 3:55 PM

Yeh - we have become notorious at pulling a CLEMSON as we basically choke away games that we should easily win - and do it on a very consistent basis.

BUT - won't it be nice to "Pull a REVERSE CLEMSON" as we start beating teams that we're supposed to lose to? I can't wait to watch ESPN cringe at CLEMSON game scores. Gonna be some fun. :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Once a media type coins a word or phrase, the rest rush

Aug 27, 2012, 4:59 PM

to the roast just as quite a number think it's funny to repeat the "West Virginia blah, blah, blah" remark. The best way IMO to bring all that cr@p to a halt is to win CONSISTENTLY by stomping the mud dung out of our opponents and keep stomping until the clock is "O." Then if those morons want to accuse us of running up scores, we can always yell: "AND CLEMSON JUST SCORED AGAIN!"

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It started on message boards, which came from betting cards

Aug 27, 2012, 5:01 PM

In addition to occasionally losing one we should win, twe beat ranked teams we shouldn't. The pundits rarely get anything right.

I'd call it pulling a Florida State recently.
