Prevent Defense?

Dec 1, 2015, 5:00 PM

I am not the regular on this board that I used to be, so if this has already been discussed, sorry about that.
When the coots scored their last TD, was that a prevent defense we were in? How many times have you seen a PD really work? Why would we not play our regular defense? That seemed to be a "gift TD". Yeah I know it wasn't a win/lose situation, but I did not want them to have it!

It appeared to be a defense that was

already in the locker room.

HTH!

TIGER BALLS.

The problem on that last TD was that no one was covering

Dec 1, 2015, 5:42 PM

their guy at all! The TD before that, BB totally left the pitch man too early and Orth pitched it as soon as he did. Hopefully we can shore those two things up. And also the one where Pharoh was left totally uncovered.

worked that time. and against ND.

Dec 1, 2015, 5:03 PM

although ND could score quicker than the coots, so it got tight at the end. There was no way for the coots to win with :01 left on the clock.

ND makes a big deal out of their almost "comeback," but when we had them down 24-9 with 10 minutes to go, that's exactly what we did. And played conservatively on offense to try and avoid turnovers. Huegel unfortunately missed a 45-yd FG with 4:29 left though.

We had the game won but i don't recall the score ever being 24-9.What
was you drinking? We were ahead 28-17 ,28-25,34-25 and then 34-32
at the end.We were ahead the whole game, just didn't list earlier
scores.

Can't remember if his 24-9 score is correct although I believe it is, but you made fun of his post, proceeded to list multiple scores, and got EVERY one of them wrong. We scored a total of 24 points in the game. How is that even possible? Maybe you were the drunk one

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we were up 28-10. Never 24-9. Not that it matters.***

The 24-9 poster was referring to the ND game. I think we have two conversations now happening in this thread along with some reading comprehending issues lol

You are 100% correct.I need to read the post correctly before i reply.
I had the coot game on my brain.Sorry.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you're close. We never led 34-32. It was 37-25

Dec 1, 2015, 5:43 PM [ in reply to Re: worked that time. and against ND. ]

Then final of 37-32.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was talking about ND***

ohhhh. Sorry bout the confusion! I thought

Dec 1, 2015, 5:50 PM

they were talking about usce

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With "10 minutes to go" we were up 28-25.

Dec 1, 2015, 5:48 PM [ in reply to worked that time. and against ND. ]

Did any of y'all actually watch the game?

Two thoughts to support prevent defense.

Dec 1, 2015, 5:07 PM

Three things happen when you throw the ball. Two of them aren't good.

When the clock is your friend because it's the enemy of your enemy don't prevent the clock from taking it's toll.

A "prevent defense" is a bit of a misnomer....

Dec 1, 2015, 5:13 PM

The intent is not to prevent the offense from scoring necessarily as much as it is intended to drain more time off of the game clock and prevent the offense from completing a long passes or scoring on a single play.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
