How bad do one's grades have to be to get dismissed?

May 16, 2012, 2:07 PM

I don't recall, and the rules have changed for sure, but I though you at least got academic probation at first.

I think you pretty much just have to not give a crap to get booted out of school for grades, with all the resources those guys have available.

When I was there, it went like this

May 16, 2012, 2:10 PM

If your GPA went below 2.0, you went on probation. Then you had to make a 2.2 the following semester or get suspended for a semester. Beyond that, if you had under a 2.0 and didn't make a 2.2 in a semester, you were given a year-long time out. 3rd offense was kicked out for good.

Not sure what the rules are for football.

i think you need a 2.0 to be able to play

or did he just get kicked out of school for academics?

Being dismissed for academic reasons

May 16, 2012, 2:14 PM

without a semester of probation would have more to do with not attending class. Had it just been low grades,he would have been allowed to go to school next fall but not participate in football. Unless he was already on "double secret" probation from the first semester.

I HATE not knowing when folks are on double secret probation***

Or use summer school to pull his grades up before fall. You

can easily take 12 hours over the summer, which is equal to the minimum for a full load during a regular semester.

Note: He wasn't kicked out of school, he was ruled

academically ineligible. I think he could have stayed in school and not played football. His choice was to leave school and play elsewhere, and JUCO is all that can have him for the upcoming season.

Pretty sure that's how it went down.

because I simply do not know -

If he is academically ineligible, can he redshirt and practice with the team while getting his grades in order - or is he totally removed from the team during this time?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure the NCAA will not allow redshirts for academics****

Good question. I don't know but it doesn't seem like

May 16, 2012, 3:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Note: He wasn't kicked out of school, he was ruled ]

they would be able to redshirt him and let him practice.

is Academic Probation if your GPA falls below a certain level - you're then required to sit-out a full semester after which time you can automatically return to school. The idea behind this is that you'll hopefully get squared away while you're out and then apply yourself when you return. If after returning your GPA stays below a certain level then you are actually dismissed from school for academic reasons.

There's nothing that indicates that MB can't come back to school in January. It's just that he's probably going to want to play ball somewhere this fall which means he'll be transferring to another school.

He wasn't treated any differently that any other student with grade problems.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i would guess it more has to do w/ the lack of credit hours

May 16, 2012, 3:24 PM

...needed to complete each semester to be eligible, which is dictated by the NCAA. there are GPA requirements as well. however, if you have to have 12 hr and you're taking 12 hrs and fail a course, then you're screwed.
