Millions of years of evolution to become the apex predator. Higher order thinking skills so we don't have to go out and hunt down food (thanks agricultural revolution).
And how do we respect our ancestors? We run no where for no reason while wearing the dumbest clothes.

distance running. Too many injuries, not enough ROI.
I do my brisk 5K 2-3 times a week, plus elliptical, lots of walks, karate with my youngest, and occasional qigong.
Running's not for everyone.

I'm with you. I'm pretty sure the people who voluntarily run long distances are performing some sort of self-flagellation ritual to atone for deep internal strife.
There are so many other ways to get cardio exercise that don't destroy your knees, get you hit by cars, or are just straight up boring AF.
