C. Pretty good. Reminds me of my Grandfather, he salted watermelon, cantaloupe, and tomatoes. He also drank Beam in his Sprite and put cheese in his coffee sometimes. I can hang with the salt and the beam/sprite, but the block of cheese in coffee was weird AF. He didn't do that often though.

have a big wheel of cheese (Dad would buy one at Christmas to cut up and share in gifts to other families) and Poppy would drop a chunk in his coffee to, I assume, soften it up then scoop it out and eat it. I'm not real sure, just thought it was weird AF. He didn't do it with like sliced cheese or shredded, just blocks.

My dad and grandad both do/did it. I've seen daddy put salt on canteloup and peaches... (###).
I salt the crap out of my tomatoes (pepper also).
I've had Beam and sprite before.. it's alright.
Cheese in coffee is very odd. Sounds like signs of dementia.

won't eat, because they're offputting. Watermelon is one of them. I can't help it if you guys have terrible palates and can't grasp this stone-cold fact. I'll give you another: cucumber. By itself, a cucumber is terrible. Add vinegar and salt, and it goes from zero to hero.
I don't think I've tried salt on a watermelon, and it's probably better than watermelon without salt, but I can't imagine is enough to make it enjoyable.

I'm only 8 generations, up to 10 depending on how you count. Never had an ancestor live north of Virginia or west of Alabama. I have family in all three corners of this state back in the 1800's, and none of their offspring ever salted their watermelon or put vinegar on collards.
Thinking actually that's a German thing or possibly Scotch-Irish considering the only people I know to put vinegar on collards are from Newberry.
And everyone eats boiled peanuts. In fact, the only people I know who don't like boiled peanuts put vinegar on their collards.
Whatever.

family are the ones that taught me that trick. Poppy grew up in Gaffney and there is some story about the river flooding and they couldn't get to church so they had to go to the one in Western York County and eventually just stayed there. They were poor, but they had no idea cause everyone was poor

Same as you, dating back to Lexington/Newberry on all branches to the early to mid 1700's.
We salt watermelon AND some of us use vinegar on collards. We also eat bald peanus like they're going out of style.

Sometimes I salt and sometimes I don't. That's according to how good the melon is. Salt isn't needed on a perfect melon, it distracts from the sweetness, imo.
