Pleasure & honor to be playing Notre Dame again especially due to their past storied history!

If possible look up their fabulous football history & better yet visit the campus (twice here; 1979 & 2008) and better yet attend a game with Clemson visiting (did in 1979)..
and after you see the Touchdown Jesus mosaic on front of tall library that can be seen from within stadium, the huge Moses statue with his #1 Index finger pointed to the sky and the overall feeling you get being on that absolutely beautiful campus..
will awe and give you pause as to what other schools have accomplished thru their long tenure of football success!
Oh, check out their list of Natty wins and Heisman winners as well a trophy case that would cause most to say: Are You Kidding Me!
Saying, as much as I love Clemson & its past history & present successful football program..we are but one cog in a large spoke wheel and thus I appreciate & respect the history & success of others too.
With that said, I hope & expect for Clemson Football to make its own history in the Cotton Bowl versus a storied program in Notre Dame.
Go TiGERS..Jeep ROCKing!

That Game weekend back in 1977 was when I met my wife at Clemson. Remember that game forever. Dan Devine stalking the sidelines giving the refs Hell in the second half. Had the refs so intimidated. ND got every call in the second half. I think the refs got to thinking Lille Ol Clemson wasn't suppose to beat the storied NC. Joe Montana had the half of his career that day. This is one of the things that got Clemson thinking they could play with anybody and ultimately lead to our 1st NC. We got our revenge 2 years latter!!!

They find themselves standing in the way of this Clemson team getting to the Natty. It will be a LONNNGGG game for the Irish. They are about to be boat raced.

I understand what you are saying. ND is one the great college football traditions. They are a big name, mid-west team with a grand history and we seldom get the chance to cross paths with them. Fact is, as proud as I am to be a Clemson fan we just have not had a history like ND and some of the others. But the fact that we get to play them again and, this time, not as underdogs, but as equals, if not better, and at a time when they are strong. This is an honor and we should take notice of where we are.

Nice post. I would only say that I don't feel Clemson should feel honored to be playing anyone. They've earned it.

I respect what ND has done in the past, but it is not a "pleasure and honor" to be playing ND today. That sounds like we should be grateful that they've graced us with the opportunity to play them in the CFP. Our players don't care what ND did before any of our players were even born!
Notre Dame should be pleasured and honored that they get to line up against the Clemson Tigers, not the other way around.

We have a PRESENT AND A FUTURE given where we are. They are lucky to have a shot at us. It annoys the heck out of me they get here w one less game and their arrogance that they dont have to join a conference

"A Pleasure and an honor"? Awww man come on!!

Notre Dame has a storied history and one heck of a PR machine(emphasis on PR machine). Delve deeper into that "storied history" and then come back on here and tell us all about them. Check their history and you'll find that during their glory years of the "Win one for the Gipper' era and you'll find that Notre Dame played non-students for years and paid them well. Fast forward to the glory years of Lou Holt and you'll find that The Quarterback Club provided absolutely outrageous benefits to ND football players! There's more, but it isn't worth my time to post it. Read 'Under the Golden Dome' and marvel at them some more. It was an open secret that ND was dirty for decades, but were untouchable. Even now, every season begins with the possibility that THIS may be the year of their resurgence and they get ranked. THIS year, they've had a good season and are undefeated, but you'll excuse me if I remember too many years when they sucked, but every pre-season, it was the same old shyte. They screwed other schools to get a special deal with NBC after making a deal with the rest of college football to break the stranglehold on TV rights and money!! Fast forward to today, and they get preferential treatment from the ACC and the NCAA with special accommodations and rules for the playoffs and bowl games, just like the BCS. So many have kissed the ### of Notre Dame and I am stunned when I see a good and loyal Clemson fan seemingly, doing it here on TigerNet. An HONOR and PRIVILEGE to play Notre Dame?!!? Say it ain't so, because it is no different than playing ANY OTHER TEAM!!!!
As you can tell, I am NOT a fan of ND, and one of the main reasons for it is the arrogance of the school and many of their fans I have encountered. Clemson doesn't take a back seat or a short shrift to ANY program!!
LBB, I don't know how to account for your painful to read deference to ND. God bless you, but look this stuff up. Boot licking doesn't become you.
Go Tigers!!!

If perception is reality, and as much as I would like it to not be I believe it too often is, then your point matters none. They have the credentials even if they cheated. They have them, very few others do. That they have them and we get to play them is a great thing. Same with OSU, Ok, Bama, Michigan... But we have to sustain longer than Miami or FSU did in order to be considered a truly storied program. I think with Dabo we have the opportunity. For now, we are little more than Oregon was several years back.

History is to celebrated, but doesn't help them now

That's the problem with idiot Domers, they keep thinking that they're gonna rise to Former Glory.By all emans they should celelbrate their history, but realize that place has now been taken.
They do not command the respect among recruits that they once did, no longer are the 4- OLD colleges of historical importance allowed to hand out 100's of scholarships to play keep away like the 3-4 teams that were of importance last CENTURY
So , Bill, that history is og little importance to what will happen to ND on the 29th,Vegas couldn't give 2 chits about it.We climbed that mountain in 2015,now ND are just another etam in our dang way on the way to the NC.

its not the problem just with Domers - much of the nation is still under the impression ND is a great program and always will be. And they seem to be having a great season. That we get to step onto the field with them, a neutral one at that, and deliver a beat'n... well, it will hurt us none.

Notre Dame Should Be Respected - But...

They really have been living off their past for a long time. Last NC was in '88 w/Holtz. Last CHANCE for a NC was 2013 in final BCS NC. ND was #1 - Bama was #2. Bama CRUSHED them, 42-14.
They were fairly awful at the beginning of 2018 - squeaked by w/a win over Mich & VANDY while still playing Winbush @ QB.
Brian Kelly HAD to switch to Book. Book slings it for a bunch. If we can't get to Book, it could be a long day.
We've played some close ones w/those guys - including '16.
I lived in South Bend for almost a year. Thought it was a drag as far as cities go. And oddly, in summer, has horrible humidity! About as bad as New Orleans!
Wasn't all that impressed w/the stadium - but campus is nice enough. The Gold Dome is certainly a dominant landmark.
Without Rockne & the Reagan movie (Pat O'Brien was terrible in that) - & their big success in the '20s & '30s - & the media drooling over them for 100 years, where would they be?
Yeah - Montana was great. I was in the Valley in '77 when we sure looked like we'd win. Dan Devine's behavior in that game was horrible. Ref's should have tossed him. Glad Danny & the guys went up there in '79 & got some payback.
