Fuller was special and with Watson did for the University, nobody deserves to wear that number.

Fuller brought Clemson back from the doldrums...towed us out of that sea of CFB anonymity that we'd been floundering in .
Watson took the reigns from his initial opportunity to start and never looked back , and won with class and at the sports highest level ...he showed his greatness .
Different circumstances, different guys . Both deserving of the Ring Of Honor and having "4" put away forever .
Agree , that number should now be untouchable .

It was retired. Watson's high school number was 4 and he wanted to wear it at Clemson. The powers that be, and Steve Fuller, consented to let Watson wear the number with the patch.

UNTIL the next superstar comes along. Don't retire numbers but put them in the Ring of Honor if they are special.

The Yankees retired #8 for two people (and #42 technically), no reason why Clemson can't retire #4 for Fuller and Watson.

It would be up to Fuller and Watson to decide if a player is worthy of donning the number. Commemorative patch honoring both.

We retired that number while you were hanging in daddy's sac. Steve permitted DW to wear it for the duration of his time at Clemson. Steve has the ultimate 'say so,' in this.

What if another talent like DW comes along years from now? I think it would be cool to only see that number on elite QBs.
