Our O will almost certainly look clunky tomorrow

I fullty expect two things tomorrow:

1) We will be able to move the ball at will, mostly on the ground...

...and...

2) We will likely not look good doing it.

Well, actually I fully expect three things. Thing #3 will likely be...

3) People will freak out and overreact and start blaming and questioning both players and coaches.

Consider for a moment how clunky our offense looked early on last year, especially against Auburn. Teams rarely look good Week 1, even with a ton of returning starters like we had last year, and we have a TON of new players in new positions this year.

We are replacing our starting QB, our starting RB, our starting C, our starting TE, and both of our starting outside wide receivers.

We return two offensive tackles, two offensive guards, and a slot receiver. That's it. That's all.

Teams historically make their biggest gains between Week 1 and Week 2. Clemson in particular tends to improve a ton as the year goes along. A lot of procedural stuff gets ironed out, a lot of nerves get shaken out, and a groove and comfort level starts to set in, and what was clunky and ungainly before starts to look a heckuva lot better.

We're replacing a ton. Expect clunkiness. As many newbs as we have in key spots, there's going to be growing pains, especially Week 1.

So I would make a simple, singular request of my own, and that is...

1) Let's try to be a more educated, sophisticated fan base than is the norm. Let's show some patience with these new players if they happen to struggle...and support them instead of tearing them down.

That's it. That's all. And good day. ;)

(Steps off soapbox.)

I'm on a mission to civilize.

I know that rarely ends well. I'm still trying to make the attempt.

About a third of the t-net posters are coots and a third don't know the diff between cover two and a two point safety so good luck with your request

Just do not expect me to do this with any of opposing teams that struggle in week one, I intend to pass judgement right away.

We will look just fine running the ball, with the O-line we have versus a MAC D-Line.

I think people were rightfully a little shocked at the slow start last year given the way we finished the year before and given the major rebuild then was on defense. And we finished that prior year with our top receiver on the DL and our next best deep threat benched.

Given the difference in the quality of our opening opponents' defenses, I'm expecting to see a lot of positives in this year's opener. I do expect some procedural problems and a few exchange flubs but I do not expect us to look dazed and confused.

"Clunky" has degrees. They've had Spring ball, summer voluntaries and a month of what is bizarrely called Fall Camp. We ought to be able to expect something.

So, ole Quoz, not gonna take the time to debate all the points I disagree with in your post. It's enough when that idiot cpt Bryant saw fit to engage you in a conversation. We will be just fine. Stars leave. New stars emerge. That's all I'm gonna say.

We should be able to do what we want to do vs Kent st.
It would be very disappointing to look bad vs a team like that.
We might look clunky as you say against AU but not tomorrow.
CU 51
KS 13

Our players are arguably better this year

than they were last, with the exception of quarterback and Mike Williams. All of this said, most have forgotten what a mediocre offense we had the first half of last season, even the quarterback play. We turned it on after that, but only after that.

All these replacements you talk about - you sound like the sky is falling over losing some good players, but I like the ones filling their shoes. Only real question mark is QB. I think even our running backs will be better, though none will be better blockers than Gallman was.

I hear ya on the civility part, but I think our O is going

Some of the fans will always find something to b*tch about even if we're up 42-0 at half. Which is why i hardly ever get on tnet during our games

I feel by clunky you meant the most yards ever in an opener you were dead on.
Everybody scored!
I think the coaches know what they are doing.
KB looked awesome!
