However, we, true to form, have made it expensive with pads, cleats, and soccer moms and dads.

Football....the American kind, is still the best.

Jun 16, 2014, 3:02 PM

It has a role for most body types. You just need something to throw and carry around. Two people can play football if they don't mind pummeling each other. No more open space is needed than for soccer and you don't even need the two trees for the goal.

Jun 16, 2014, 4:11 PM

Worst hurt I ever got was a stinger playing football. This was in camp and we were running just as many plays as we could. It was pretty hard to get in a decent stance when I couldn't put my hand on the ground.

I also got a vicious hematoma on my knee the year before. It was like a second knee cap. Didn't hurt to bad but it felt funny when I ran. It would move independently.

Went to clear a ball and dude slide right into my left knee, which was my plant foot. The cleats worked a little too well, as my foot stayed put, and the rest of my body went forward.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mine was during intramural at Clemson. I kicked the ball

Jun 16, 2014, 10:27 PM [ in reply to From a contact injury?*** ]

down the sideline and foot planted, guy slid towards me, hit the side of my knee and the knee decided to bend the wrong way.

Then I went to the useless Redfern the next day, they said it wasn't torn, just really badly sprained (my knee was about double its normal size). So I continued to play sports on a torn ACL for three years, my knee would just hurt like crazy whenever I'd stop exercising.

Until the first month I was at my work, was playing Ultimate Frisbee with co-workers during lunch and was running backwards, hit a hole in the field, and twisted the knee again. Apparently part of the meniscus tore and folded in the knee and I had constant pain, finally got it looked at by a real ortho and got surgery soon after.

/cool story bro

It was a complete tear, would've never healed on its own.

Also broke a kid's ankle in high school going into a 50/50 ball. I feel bad about that one.

Had a guy slide into me soft (metal) spikes first and shatter my shin guard and gashing below my knee open. I'm thankful for having good shin guard, pretty sure he would've broken my tibia.
