Opposing teams' bands...

Oct 3, 2016, 8:58 PM

Is it not against the rules for the opposing team's band to play as loud as they can all the way up until we snap the ball? They just play garbage noise as loud as possible, and it's pretty obvious what they are doing.

Oklahoma did it, and I noticed Louisville doing it as well.

Sure it hasn't cost us games. But it's been bugging the heck out of me when it happens. I'm assuming since our staff hasn't complained, maybe there is no rule?

Maybe if their fans would cheer, they wouldn't need to do this.

If it gets bad, the ref can stop them

Tiger Bamd does this and always has, but does a good job of stopping a few seconds before the snap. Louisville's band missed several times but was mostly okay.

Just one time during my tenure, a ref warned Tiger Band drum majors to stop using their whistles. In Death Valley of all places. Never happened again but showed me that the refs have some control over this if they need to exercise it

Years ago and I many I was at a game and they called an interference call on the fans for crowd noise. I never remember that happening again.

I remember that happening more than once in the early 80s. If the home crowd was too loud when the visiting team was on offense the QB could complain and the ref would give the crowd a warning. After that it was a delay of game penalty each time.

believe that Clemson was penalized even away from home for nouse

And it was called the Danny Ford rule.

Louisville's band did not crank up until we broke the huddle . I watched , and their intent was to interfere.
