There is no black church. There is no white church. The only color in a house of the Lord is red for the blood of Christ. Prayers for the victims and their families and friends.

The name is "Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME)" after all. Also has one of the largest and oldest black congregations. Hence referencing it as a 'black church' doesn't seem outlandish.
Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is the oldest AME church in the south. It is referred to as "Mother Emanuel". Emanuel has one of the largest and oldest black congregations south of Baltimore, Maryland. The current pastor of "Mother Emanuel" is The Rev. Clementa Pinckney

Yeah, no. Color blindness is great when we're talking about whether to give someone a job, or whether to sentence a person for a crime, but when it comes to when we are considering what kind of crime was committed and why it was committed, that kind of willful blindness is not appropriate.
Also important to remember that this particular church is historically associated with black resistance to slavery, and with white supremacist attacks against its members. Pretty sure it was burned to the ground by a white mob at one point, then banned from existing for the last few antebellum decades.

There are always exceptions, and congregations are becoming more diverse these days, but in general Christian churches are predominantly one color or the other. This is especially true in the South.
I understand what you're trying to say but I think it's terribly naive.

not due to any exclusionary rules. I'm a white man who is a member of a Baptist church in South Carolina, and we have a black pastor on staff and black members in our congregation.
The original poster's point is spot on. The little coward who committed this heinous act is a racist, and racism is evil... but racism doesn't always lead to crime and violence. That coward hates far more than black people. He hates his life and himself. You can't do something like this if you have any regard for yourself or the God who created you.
