On the decision to punt rather than try for the first down.

Sep 18, 2015, 12:41 PM

Dabo is a third generation Bear Bryant coach with a lust for the HUNH. Bear would roll over in his grave if he knew how much football has changed since his departure.

Dabo is giving us the best of the future of college football while maintaining the best of his heritage, conservative decisions when one has his opponent by the throat.

Dabo just won the hearts of his old fans and the his defensive players when he laid the win in their hands. He took the burden off his young offensive line and his young struggling QB with that conservative decision too.

Everyone calls Dabo a manager without appreciating his tremendous ability to manage, I call him Coach. It's about time everyone started called him, Sir.

Going for it on 4th down that deep in our own territory would've been lunacy. Even if it had worked it would've been a terrible decision.

Agreed.

Those that consider going for it don't have...

Sep 18, 2015, 1:03 PM

a job paying millions a year that depend on making the right call.
As a fan, I thought about it--the birds were out of time outs and sending out their punt return team; it would have been great to see what would have happened, but Dabo made the right call.
Go Tigers!!

I never considered it.

I think the folks that wanted to go for it did so out of ego. Ego is an emotional thing, emotions are contrary to logic and reasoning.

97 coaches out of 100 punt there

Sep 18, 2015, 1:05 PM

the other 3 are winning 69-66 and haven't forced a punt all night. I like Dabo, but that wasn't a very abnormal call at all.

I might say 99 out of 100, but your point is well taken.

As tempting as it is for a fan to just try to win the game right there, you have to punt. I had folks in my section outright booing when he sent the punt team on...In my mind, folks that booed that decision only know football by playing Madden...

Only SOS goes for it there

Sep 18, 2015, 1:08 PM

Only the old ball sack, SOS, goes for it there. Well maybe Paul Johnson too.

nonbody in their right mind would've gone for it there***

i give BV some credit for some of this as dabo has gone for

Sep 18, 2015, 1:18 PM

it on 4th and short in the past when kicking might have been better. sometimes the moment changes everything, sometimes you learn as you go.

bv and his defense have earned the kick in that situation.

not trying to steal any thunder from dabo as i agree, he's a great coach.
