On Sirius this morning, they asked callers to tell about

Jun 13, 2019, 8:59 PM

their favorite memory from their school's national championship games. A coot actually called in and said his favorite was their win over #1 Bama in 2010. He said that's the closest they have come to a national championship win, and probably the closest they will ever come! Aren't those coots pitiful?? At least he was honest!

The closest they came was 1984 before they lost to Navy.
And they were all pumped full of ‘roids.

I’ve had 12 year old kids taking smack after church regarding their beating Alabama in 2010 or whenever. That crowd is not going away anytime soon. Not exaggerating about age.??

They certainly like to hold on to those magical moments. I still get reminded of the 2012 beating they gave UGA. The forget that since then they are 1-4 against the Dawgs with an average margin of loss nearly 20 points.

Then they were soundly beaten in their bowl game and JM falls into bad health-rip

I'm surprised the coot didn't want to talk women's hoops***

I work with a Coot homer

Jun 14, 2019, 6:01 AM

...and he still brags about their 2010 regular-season Alabama win. He honestly believes it makes them relevant (today).

I've tried to explain to him that every program, even the Vandy's, Wake's, and South Carolina's of the world have wins over great programs once in a while.

Those wins rarely affect the trajectory of programs. It surely didn't help South Carolina.

Tell him it was an impressive upset

Jun 14, 2019, 6:33 AM

But not as good as then-FCS App St beating the big Blue in the big house. But maybe when they join the SoCon they can post a bigger upset than that. It just won't be against Clemson.

The definition of awesome!

So his favorite was against a three loss Alabama team?

Jun 14, 2019, 8:39 AM

At u of 5c, I thought they took your fan card if you didn't live vicariously through Bama's success.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Uof5c over Bama more or less surprising than

Jun 14, 2019, 8:58 AM

El Cid over the Dirtpeckets?

I say more surprising. The Citadel is much closer (and in many cases has surpassed) Uof5C much more often than Uof5C has gotten to Bama.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

Bama was probably just too tired and/or over-confident.***
