Why not Jay Wright at Villanova....

Jan 26, 2017, 9:58 AM

Why not !?!?!?!

Leaving Villanova for Clemson would definitely be a great

career move for Jay Wright.

and in spite of 13 NCAA tournament appearances and a National Championship, he's still making less than $2.5 million annually. Brownell is making nearly $2 million annually for far worse results.

Jan 26, 2017, 1:30 PM [ in reply to why in earth would he leave the celtics???? ]

Rick Pitino left the Celtics. Yeah - I recommended that CLEMSON hire Pitino when he left the Celtics instead of OP, but hey - what the heck do I know? Of course we would have had to deal with all those wins and final four appearances and other stuff, but we would not have inherited BB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not sure I'd want Pitino, thanks

Jan 26, 2017, 2:45 PM

Basketball wins aren't worth the black eye on the university he would bring

Re: why in earth would he leave the celtics????

Jan 26, 2017, 1:34 PM [ in reply to why in earth would he leave the celtics???? ]

Why would he want to continue coaching arguably the most historically relevant franchises in the NBA while living in one of the best cities in the country, when he could move to the sticks of the Upstate and coach a college program with little to no history of success in the sport?

Oh, yea.

Its almost like I wasnt being serious and was just saying something as outlandish as the OP....

Re: Why not Jay Wright at Villanova....

Clemson lacks tradition and reputation for winning! We are known as a "football school."
We also need to consider costs after having the current staff contracts to pay off over time.

Whatever happens Clemson needs a fresh start beginning with a solid coach and focused recruiting the next few years.

Go Tigers!

Hire a great recruiting staff please. A smart coach will use football momentum. We need a fresh start though. Smith is the best recruiter on staff.

This guy is rested and ready too.

Our remaining schedule sets up nicely for an NIT berth.

Jan 26, 2017, 10:27 AM

We should get an easy win Saturday against a floundering Pitt team that has lost 6 of their last 7 and then Georgia Tech at home. Two wins should build some confidence going forward. Our ACC schedule was front loaded and there are a number of winnable games remaining.

Don't think DRad makes a change should we manage to secure an NIT berth and possibly make a bit of a run in it.

Jan 26, 2017, 12:26 PM

Our standards are that low we will never have a good bb program.1 NASA and a run in the NIT and BB gets an extension. Good grief.

Of course not...

Jan 26, 2017, 4:51 PM

While he should have never been hired in the first place IMO, after seven seasons, I do think we've seen more than enough to satisfy ourselves that he's not the coach to continue leading this program beyond this season.

gone off the rails and entered the "other" dimension. i get where you're coming from tho and applaud the sentiment. but, that would be the equivalent of coach swinney leaving for iowa.

Actually I get it ... DRad should inquire whether ...

Jan 26, 2017, 1:19 PM

some very successful and high profile B-ball coaches might have some unknown motivation to leave their existing positions.

Maybe unlikely but Clemson should be prepared to act if an unforeseen opportunity arises.

It's a pipe dream, what IS there to get? Maybe I should ask
