Officiating - the rest of the story

Dec 4, 2014, 11:46 AM

I guess we still get to blame Swofford for the terrible officiating this past Saturday. According to the SEC Referee (Penn Wagers?) that calls into Bobby Hartin's show each week to discuss calls, the on field officials for the game were SEC, but the replay officials were ACC. According to him, in scenarios where the visiting team "brings the officials" the replay officials are still from the home team's conference.

Oh, and he also confirmed what we already knew...roughing the passer would be a valid call on Anthony, but he did not see anything in the targeting rule to support a targeting call on that play.

I think even roughing is a bit much for barely touching the guy

It was definitely roughing. No matter how light or accidental the contact is, if there is contact to a QBs head they are going to throw that flag. Its in the rulebook. Its a stupid rule, but that doesn't make it a bad call.
