I prefer it around Christmas time, but I think it was originally released in July which would mean the studio didn’t see it as a Christmas movie.

Yes, the BEST Christmas movie bar none

Yes. It's a Christmas movie because of the action taking place during a big company Christmas party.

Why it was released in mid-July 1988 - wish somebody could explain. That's just weird. I've always liked it though. Kinda made Willis a big-time action star.

Of course it is.

And at the very end, doesn't McClain tell Big Al " Merry Christmas "?

That's the way I remember it, anyway.

Yes.

It’s a movie that takes place in December.

Tell me how it’s not a Christmas movie!?!

Here’s what you have to ask yourself...

[2]
Posted: Dec 9, 2018 3:26 PM

Could the movie have been set during any other time of the year? If the answer is yes, it’s not a Christmas movie, it’s a movie that happens to takes place on or around Christmas.

Could these movies have been set on July 4th?

Elf: No
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation: No
A Christmas Story: No
Die Hard: Yes

The first 3 are Christmas movies, the last one is not.

So is Home Alone a Christmas movie? I guess no.

When else do you get snow, ice, presents, family travel, a willingness to meet your neighbor, favorable treatment of religion, and a parent re-discovering the joys of parenting a pack of brats?

It can only be a Christmas movie!!

Christmas is a much, much bigger theme in Home Alone

Posted: Dec 9, 2018 4:03 PM

It's hardly even comparable to Die Hard.

If you still have doubt after answering the first question..

Posted: Dec 9, 2018 4:45 PM

Look at the release date.

Home Alone: 11/16/1990

Christmas Movie

even a real debate. It's an action movie that happens to have a Christmas party at the beginning. Christmas plays no role in the plot and after the opening you can easily forget over the next 2 hours that it's even Christmas eve.
