Did anyone uphold the Clemson tradition of taking two dollar

Jan 16, 2016, 10:39 AM

bills to postseason destinations with tiger paws stamped on them to Charlotte, Miami and Arizona? You don't hear much about that anymore. The university used to remind folks to take their $2 bills. Do they even make those anymore?

I took them to all three games.

Jan 16, 2016, 10:40 AM

You can get them from your bank, it's a good idea to have them order some specifically for you, especially if you don't live in the Clemson area.

Awesome you are. That's such a neat tradition and helps

Yep. Wife got us some for OB and NCG. I believe she had to order them though. We used them mostly for tips. I saw several tip jars filled with them. Some bartenders even taped them into the tip jar them selves to show them off. Kind of a nostalgic tradition that unfortunately will phase out over time due the convenience of the plastic card.

Plastic and costs.. read where people bought their 81 OB tix for

Jan 16, 2016, 11:34 AM

$15-20.. 7-10 $2 bills

2015 Nat Champ $450 = 225 $2 bills

I know most show up with tickets, it was just an example that illustrates the point of why it is more difficult today.

Also, we don't have to show our economic impact to Phx.

I don't get any part of what you are saying . . . What makes

Jan 16, 2016, 12:23 PM

it difficult ?

And why don't we have to show who we are & what our traditions are to the people of PHX ?

I took 100 of them total to split between Miami & Phoenix - everywhere I showed them people were interested and blown away by "who Clemson is. I had no idea." kinda reactions.

From what I saw - the tradition is alive & well and thriving, even.

Heck - made a TV spot below.

I think it has recently been on the front pages of a Boston paper (BC game), and in the NYTimes, even.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I think we can keep this one going if people care (which I sure think we do in this case). Even when I used a card (which I did most places), I still threw in a $2 with the tip. It's an easy fix.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course

Jan 16, 2016, 10:48 AM

Miami and Phoenix. Brought my stamp along to stamp others as well.

Saw a Twitter picture of the donation box at the Grand Canyon. Filled with $2 bills. It was pretty awesome.

Our sister station in Arizona did a story on the $2 bills floating around the Valley of the Sun

Had my Bama friend asking about it

Jan 16, 2016, 11:06 AM

He got some $2 bills with Tiger paws on them as change and asked about it.

Re: $2 bills -Toll Booth in Fla Turnpike

Jan 16, 2016, 11:18 AM

When we gave her our toll she grinned and said she had a drawer full. We passed around 40 of them. Even gave 3 to a Gamecock waitress in Crackerbarrel. She saw our Clemson clothes and remarked that she was a fan.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, took $74 worth

Jan 16, 2016, 11:21 AM

That was all the bank had at the time. I had a few bartenders ask me about them because they seemed to be everywhere, so I told them about our tradition. Needless to say, they now like $2 bills....

The lady we bought a program from was giving them to Bama fans as change

Re: Did anyone uphold the Clemson tradition of taking two dollar

Jan 16, 2016, 11:59 AM

I think everywhere I went in Phoenix had some. The place where I picked up my parking pass had them binder clipped to their laptops on display. Most places I talked to had to stash them under the cash drawer since they had no place for them. Nice and visible :)

I also tried to convince some bartenders to give them back to Bama fans... I don't think I had any luck with that one!

I gave one to a lady bama fan that was asking about how it started. She said it made her day and gave me a handful of twislers.

Jan 16, 2016, 12:16 PM

No. The school decided to end that tradition. It was stupid.
