Odds & Ends Along 2,200 Miles

Oct 9, 2019, 4:34 PM

Gas Prices ---- $2.14 --- $2.98 for regular unleaded. Highest prices in Northern Michigan.

Temperatures --- 95F. in Clemson, 34F. in Petroskey, MI

Number of smashed guard rails (head on). About 6 - 8. Most were peeled back several feet. Can't imagine the result of the vehicles and passengers. West Virginia curves their approaching guard rails down and away from the shoulder, preventing a head-on collision. All states should do this.

Dead deer on road ---- 3

Speed limits ----- Posted everywhere but ignored by most drivers.

Road Construction ---- Total probably about 100 miles.

Notice of Road construction --- Total probably about 500 miles. At one construction site there was a notice that traffic would merge immediately into one single lane even though there was about one mile to the single lane site. There are always those who don't merge until they reach the very last point so they can get ahead. Well, at this one site there was a man sitting in a truck that made everyone merge long before the work site. He got a lot of cheers from the drivers.

IPTAY and Clemson decals plus magnetic Tiger Paws can create problems. Several times when I wanted to move to the passing lane awaiting an auto to pass me, they would slow down to read all of that stuff and I would have to slow down.

Notre Dame & Ohio State fans. Lots of Notre Dame fans at the wedding and a few Ohio State fans. Some of their fans did not realize Ohio State has never defeated Clemson and Clemson was 3 - 1 vs. Notre Dame.

Tiger Paws -- Took a supply of Tiger Paws but could have used a lot more. Everyone at the wedding reception wanted a Tiger Paw.

A Clemson connection --- A gentleman from Chicago reminded me that he had talked to me many years ago that the daughter of a friend in Chicago was coming to Clemson on a rowing scholarship. We met and hosted the young lady when she came to Clemson.

I've been doing this for over33 years and have used many types and sizes. I used to get the small knitted "stick on" Tiger Paws from IPTAY or the Alumni Office. The cost soon became prohibitive. Later they had the printed "stick-ons" and the latest I bought at one of the Tiger shops. There are 40 on a page for about $6.00. Over the years I estimate I've given out about 12,000 - 15,000, or maybe more.

I have lots of stories about the Tiger Paws.

volumes on what Ohio State fans dont know. WHile you were traveling I got to follow the golf team as they beat Duke for the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Muirfield Village. Clemson beat Ohio State the previous day to get to beat Duke. It was a great weather day and huge fun to follow the beloved Tigers. They are a very nice group of young men

They could put ramps by the guard rails on the side of
the road so a car could just go over the rail and avoid
a head on collision. <img border=">">"> Btw, so that was all legal when
you hosted the young lady coming to Clemson on a rowing
scholarship? I'm sure you didn't want to get the rowing
team on probation. Guessing she was on an official visit.
