a computer and wring a little more pep out of an engine are gone forever.

That and they don't sell well enough except in rock bottom low end corrollas and high performance cars that people still want to feel like they are driving without a nanny.

Oddly, the only manual you can get now in the Corolla

is in the "sport" version with a larger engine. Else, it gets a CVT.

They want something to get them from point A to B while they can text their friends or make videos of themselves with driving.

3 pedal plus a shifter stops that.

Yes, automatics are faster, especially those with clutches (VW, BMW, Porsche, etc.).

But for those who enjoy driving, nothing beats a manual. Even Porsche had to bring back manuals for the track based GT3.
