How Dawgnation imagines UGA catching up to Clemson (link)

Jun 19, 2019, 8:39 AM

Honestly, it is so refreshing to see Georgia pundits acknowledging how far Clemson has surpassed their program recently. As an old timer, I never thought this would happen. We pulled even briefly in the 80s, but they never really acknowledged it. Now the are facing reality ... and searching for answers.

maybe i'm misreading it, but the thesis seems to be that "georgia's "much tougher" schedule will be a benefit, but they admit in the body that Clemson actually has a tougher non-conference schedule, by a hair. the folks doing the seeding aren't going to care about Georgia's wins over a once-again overhyped SEC.

When I finished reading the article I thought I had logged on to FGF. We know that when the Bulldogs are worried about Clemson, their SEC mantra feels threatened, and, indeed, it has.

Someone please enlighten me on how good the SEC East has been for the last few years. Even the national media had them pegged as the worst in the Power 5. Should we remind the Bulldogs of the comparative scores re Bulldogs/Irish and Tigers/Irish last year?

Let the Tigers line up and play our 2019 schedule and then let the chips fall where they may.

Dang !! It sure feels good to be sitting on top of the hill and everyone looking up at us and wondering how they can dethrone us.

I am always perplexed why these pundits chose such arbitrary years of demarcation such as 15. Why not chose for instance the number 7, 19 or 26?

"For just about the last 15 years, the Southeastern Conference has been the toughest and most difficult conference in all of football. Since 2006, four different programs have won national titles."

BTW, I have read repeatedly on FGF that the lamecockx have the nation's toughest schedule. Who is correct? Finally, I seem to remember a coach from Florida a few years back named Muschamp who was fired because of his weak Florida teams.

For the same reason we say the modern era starts in 1981 (UGA hasn't won a National Championship in the modern era). Or that we've won 2 of the last 3 Natties (rather than 2 of the last 4). It fits their narrative. Everyone does this.

Actually, the modern-era is considered to have begun in 1950.

UGA's other "national title" was from 1948.

Either way, UGA still only has 1 modern-era national championship.

He spends the whole article talking about how teams played last season...then talks about how last season doesn't matter when talking about how Clemson and UGA ended up.

Games again.

Get the suicide hotline ready. Their media really sets them up for pain every year.

When you lose 3 games a season your schedule is pretty irrelevant.

Unless you want to play the "Football Conference Supremacy Game".

Then you lose your bowl game to TEXAS. "SEC, SEC".......LOL!!!

Writer props up UGA schedule including the match up against Notre Dame. He seems to forget the Tigers trucked the Irish in the the playoffs last year.

Bottom line: Dabo is living rent-free in their heads. Dawgs should focus on closing out Bama before writing about the Tigers.

Refreshing to see objective view on a Georgia article. One thing I would like to "correct" on your post is that not only did Clemson "... pull(ed) even briefly in the 80's ..." but since after the 1980 season Clemson and Georgia has roughly the same winning percentage through the 2018 season. I would not call that "briefly". Over the last three season ... the records, stats and championship speak for themselves.

As a teenager and young adult nothing was more fun than a Georgia / Clemson game. I came so close to selling my ticket for the infamous 60 yard FG for $100 each and listening to it in the car ... with a case of beer and some ribs. Fortunate for me, I didn't do it.

This was a very object article even stating "IF" Georgia could get by Alabama. Contrary to popular believe on TigerNet not everyone associated with Georgia are idiots.

What I look forward to the most with Clemson this season is to see how TL improves. The kid is talented, smart, and works harder than just about anyone. If he does, we are looking at the next Peyton Manning ... and I don't say that lightly.

I never make predictions ... I never brag ... but what I would like to see (in a vacuum ... no other players) is Clemson's DL and Georgia's OL go head to head. I don't think I have ever seen more solid players on one (or two) teams in college football. Most all of those kids on both teams are more than likely going to have the opportunity to play on Sunday's.

Head-to-head after the 80s favors Georgia, I think ...

Jun 19, 2019, 1:12 PM

... that’s what I meant by briefly.

We’ve totally eclipsed them overall, but in the few times we’ve played each other since the 80s, I think we’ve come up short.

We split the games in the 80s @ 7-7-1 culminating in a 34-3 domination by Clemson. But, we've been 1-6 against them since 1990 ...That 30-0 game in 2003 still pretty galling.

That said, the two programs should play every single year. No valid excuses!
