Always remember that Clemson's fan culture doesn't just happen.

I was thinking about this with the display that the Gamecock fans put on this weekend. No one on here thinks we can act like that as a fan base, but remember that that expectation comes from conscious decisions. Any time Clemson plays, 80k orange-clad fans are there. Many of us have indulged in some adult beverages. In that situation, bad decisions can easily occur. The way to keep Clemson from trending toward SC behavior is to make the effort. When you see someone giving the one finger salute, using inappropriate language, throwing something, giving an opposing fan a hard time who was just cheering on their team...let them know it's not cool and it's not how we do things. Any time we see something like that and let it go, we weaken the culture that we collectively have created.
Just my opinion. I really value Clemson's culture and I would be so embarrassed to be a Gamecock reading all these comments where they justify their fans' behavior on Saturday.

Now if we can just stop people from booing...

When the opposing team comes out of the tunnel.
That, to me, is the least-classy thing I see with regularity in Death Valley. No need for that. We know you’re a Clemson fan, you’re in Death Valley with your orange on... no need to boo the opposing team for just showing up.

Who is it that establishes things like an orange-out or other fan-based activities? If those same people got the word around that we were going to cheer for the opposing team coming out of the tunnel, I bet after a couple of times it would become the tradition.

Are you kidding me? Booing the opposing team as they enter

is a fundamental aspect of being the home team. I would feel disrespected if we went anywhere and they didn't.

Yep. Booing the opposing team as they come out takes the attention off of Clemson, who is usually at the top of The Hill when the other team comes out. I hate it too. That and that stupid woo-hoo.

I do think to a large extent it's positive peer pressure. I've thought about this often when tail gating. You see other Clemson fans being very welcoming to the opposing team, and you realize that is what is expected. On the other hand, if you had had a good bit to drink and other Clemson fans were harassing opposing fans, it would be easy to slip into that without thinking. As long as Clemson fans are giving out that vibe that good behavior is expected, it will stay that way.

Well said... Saturday night was my 43rd consecutive Clemson/Carolina game.. Through the years I've noticed that a very small percentage of Clemson fans act out... On the other hand, a very large percentage of Carolina fans act out... It's even worst in Columbia when Carolina wins.. They are in your face running their mouth while walking back to your car...

Good post. Good points. I was visiting a friend in Johnstone in 1980 after a game. He was a freshman and I was a recent graduate. He and his roommate were hanging out the window jeering visiting fans. Nothing bad, just impolite to their "Elders". I gently called them out on it and explained that's not how Clemson men behave. They not only stopped, they shouted out an apology.
My intent is to illustrate it does work.

Well said. I've always though that booing our opponent as they come on the field is giving them undeserved attention. I must admit I have booed an official's call or no-call when it was apparent he had made a mistake.
We often have a fan of another school post on a Tiger board about their wonderful experience at a game in Clemson. I would hope every fan of an opponents school would experience the same reception. It always makes me proud of our fan base when I read or hear comments such as this.

Of the sports fan world. Dabo set us on the right course. Now for booing. Once you get your point across it is time to move on and start cheering for the players
