If you haven't been to Pittsburgh you need to visit. It's a southern working class city in the north. The people talk funny but they are extremely nice. When I was up there last August Pitt students were buying me drinks all night. It's a great place, and the Steelers stadium is sick.

Pittsburgh is a great place. When Clemson plays there I can give you all the places to go plus take some extra cash...Casino right within walking distance from the stadium. Be sure if the Steelers are at home to get tickets, even if you are not a fan...great place and great atmosphere. Can't believe the first post said they speak funny... I am from Pittsburgh and feel the same about y'all.

when they're from another area, even right here in good, ole South Carolina. The Charlestonians have their own accent, the Upcountry folks, theirs. Then you have Columbia, which has a combination of political and chicken speech called "politiken"...a lot of hot air accented with clucking. lol

Pittsburgh area, and over the years, I've enjoyed visiting a number of times. My favorite excursion with the kids was to Kennywood, one of the country's original, non-themed amusement parks, and I enjoy golf in the area. The drive up through the Virginia and West Virginia mountains is scenic, and the people were warm and receptive.
Naturally, the casinos in the area are fun, as well as visits to area stadiums. The fact that the weather is about 15 - 20 degrees cooler in the summer helps, also. I believe most Tiger fans will enjoy visits, as will the Pitt folks to Clemson.

Through Pitt Tunnel with City below you. I was thrilled to pull and watch the Dolphins take back to back Super Bowls. Later, my first wife was from Pittsburg so I witnessed another Super Bowl x 2. I was the odd one out a few years later rooting for Penn St playing #1 Pitt in 81

really is. We were there 3 years ago for the birth or our adopted daughter. Very impressed with the hospital, the people and the surroundings. It would be a great trip. We can also get revenge for that beat down that we got from them in the 77 Gator bowl.

The Italian-American population in Pittsburgh has created a ton of great Italian restaurants. Some are more hole in the wall kinds of places, while others are fancy, family affairs. I've been working there on a project for several months and have fallen in love with the Italian food.

Agreed. I live two hours away. Terrific city. You can also go to Carson Street. It's on what's called the South Side, but it's right across the river. Fat Heads Saloon is worth the trip.

Pittsburgh has a bunch of mills and factory type jobs in the surrounding area. It's not like New York or Chicago. Pittsburgh feels like the south with the exception of the weather. It is obvious that you know nothing about Pittsburgh and you're a complete idiot. Thank you for vomiting carp on tnet.

there has been in the south, and more working class cities. Up until the past 40 years there weren't many cities in the south had anywhere close to the population of working class northern cities. And all the cities in the south that have grown in population are the glamour cities of the south like Miami (south regionally, not culturally), Atlanta, Orlando, Nashville, Dallas, Houston, Tampa. Also, mill and factory jobs in the south aren't really around anymore due to free trade agreements first sending American jobs to Mexico, then sending American jobs to China. The comparison doesn't make sense. By the way Chicago is in the Midwest. Chicago is a huge city, but it's culturally different than New York.
The comparison would only make sense for people, who only think that people up north live in New York City or Boston. And the rest of the state of New York is much different than New York City.
Working class people down south have mostly always lived in small towns and rural areas. There hasn't been many cities in the south that have ever had a large number of factory jobs. Mills in the south were mostly located in small towns, which were basically built because of the mill.

The small town is my point. Although Pittsburgh is a city. It is surrounded by beautiful country areas. If you go to a gas station outside of the city guys will be dressed in carrharts and all that stuff. Southern PA has a southern feel.

My best friend lives there. I love to visit every chance I get. The strip district on Saturday and Sunday mornings is cool. Make sure you buy some sausage from Parma Sausage company and cheese from Penn Mac.

Tanks for making me homesick. Even though I miss the Burg...SC and the Tigers are my team and my home. Do not miss those 17 below mornings. I will take Lake Hartwell any day over the Three Rivers and those barges.
