Not trying to start anything but have two questions.

Jun 3, 2019, 8:11 AM

1. Was our baseball program in that much of shambles toward the end of the JL era and we are that behind with players?

2. How long does the Monte Lee experiment go? His coaching or lack of has definitely cost us a lot of Games.

1. Absolutely not. Seth Beer was originally committed to Jack, as was a couple other elite players that went elsewhere. Monte's first team of his own players was the worst one yet. I believe we would have made at least one Super Regional over the last 4 years had we not fired Jack.

1 I can’t speak to the level of talent that Monte inherited. I can say that the level of MLB prospects had declined during JL’s last few years, but that’s a relative observation because he had years in the early and mid 2000’s that had MLB talent everywhere. (For what it’s worth, those loaded teams didn’t produce any championships.).

2 In full disclosure I have been a Monte supporter from day one, but I also believe that next year he must produce. Couple the returning young talent, injured arms returning, and incoming recruits; this team should be loaded. They will be well equipped to make a deep run in the tourney. If not then I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about Monte. I watched his team at CofC and one missing element I see is a vocal leader. All of his CofC teams had a fiery, vocal onfield leader. I didn’t see this anywhere on this years team. I think a lot of guys were looking to Davidson to be that guy, but I don’t think he has that makeup.

I agree with you about his C of C teams. My cousin Marty

Gantt played for him.

Gantt was exactly who I was referring to as a vocal on the field leader. We lack players with that intensity. He was highly underrated nationally. Prob one of the best pure hitters I’ve seen in college. Rohlman reminded me a lot of him.

Yes, I believe a "Christian Wilkins" on the baseball diamond

would do wonders for next year's team.

Andrew Cox was somewhat like that last year.
