Why Miami decided to kick FG late in game? Announcers were like “why”, just to prevent shutout? Seemed pretty lame to kick at that point to me. Go Tigers!

It would have been a stupid question. The answer was obvious.

Kicking a fg in that situation is more of a kick in the balls to your team than them getting shut out imo

Shutout? What about trying to score a TD and get an onside kick?
Richt took the wuss way.

24 at the start of the 4th quarter and punted on 4th and maybe 5 from the 50 yard line. They basically just decided the game was over right there.

... he took his shut-out like a grown man.
It about killed him to get shut out 31-0, but he didn't try to kick any lame FG in the waning minutes to avoid it.
Both Muschamp and Richt sort of whimped out by settling for a FG when it was totally meaningless and then not going for onsides kicks after the scores.

He took it by he didn’t have a choice, they wernt close enough to kick a FG so it wouldn’t be a shutout. If memory serves, the only time the got close enough a couple of sacks took them back out of range before 4th down and then they got intercepted at the goal line. I would bet if he had the opportunity to kick One to prevent it, he would have.

They got intercepted throwing it to the EZ ... that's my point. They didn't try to get short yardage that would set up a FG try. Honestly, as much as I dislike Meyer, I don't see him kicking a meaningless FG in that game just to take away the goose egg. Guess we'll never know. Hope he gets the chance to do it in about a month though, LOL.

Their egos took enough punishment last night. They won all year on turnovers and last night found out just how easy it is to turn the ball over. They learned that a ball has two points and where it goes is unpredictable. They also learned that desire to win only brings success when it's part of every waking moment and not just on game days.
I don't blame him for kicking that FG. He needed to give his kicker another shot, lessen the crushing blow to his players and instill in them that giving up never wins a game. It didn't help but hey, I probably would have done the same thing.

Kicking a FG while down 38-0 is the definition of GIVING UP

Teams that aren't giving up try to get in the end zone no matter what. Then they go for an onsides kick after they score.
Teams that settle for FG and then kick away have absolutely given up and quit.
Neither Mucschamp nor Richt did anything but hoist an embarassing white flag with their meaningless field goals.

Agree he should have gone for it on 4th. He told his team. 'I don't believe in you.' He gave up on his players.
By the way, I like how Dabo calls them backup players, not 3rd/4th string, as an extension of next man up.

Can't say I blame them. They weren't going to win anyway so why not wipe the skunk off the board.

Because it still smells like "skunk" but then it also reeks of "quit" ...

The FG was bush league especially on 4th and less than a yard. However, their FG kicker was 2 points away from the Miami record. I guess Richt could rationalize that he was giving Miami's only All ACC player the Miami record but you try to go for the TD every time in such situations.
