Not sure why people care about keeping the Redskins name

If it were the Blackskins or the Whiteskins it would have already been changed. Just call them the Washington Indians & move on to something important.

I'm not a native, but I would think Indian is more offensive

I know the precedent was set with the Cleveland Indians, but given that they aren't, in fact, from India, I would have thought that being called an Indian would be more offensive.

Some people need to stop being such cry babies. (Not attacking poster, just speaking in general terms)Put your big boy pants on and do not let words hurt your "feelings." Next thing you know, everybody is going to want a trophy for just signing up to play a sport. Or they are going to stop keeping score so the children do not learn about winning and loosing in life.

The Redskins are my favorite pro team.

I agree people need to have a little thicker skin. Otherwise, in fifty years all teams will just be numbers: Yay, go team 14! team 26 is a bunch pansies!
That said, I grew up learning that 'Redskins' was not a racially insensitive word. It was more of an honorific title. Thus, I find this whole drama strange. However, I do know that if I was a minority and a team name was what I had grown up learning was a term to belittle my people, I would lobby for its removal. I'm not saying 'Redskins' is an example of this, just in general terms. These five people who brought up the lawsuit obviously feel that way. I just wish there was an accurate way of polling the Native American tribes to see how they feel collectively.

I personally find the word Washington more offensive than the nickname Redskins.

I agree with 80. If I were an American Indian, I would not want Washington tied to me in any way, shape, or form.

I don't think there are any Indians involved in this at all

It's all lefty white people trying to show how non-racist they are. Which is a white thing, anyway. Non-whites give a rat's ### about being racist. And I'm not just talking about our Afro-American friends, I mean internationally. Chinese, Japanese, India-Indians, etc care not a whit about the perception of 'racist' remarks.
All the Indian/Native Amer names for teams are honors. Think about it, if it were a slur there would have been teams named for blacks back in the day.

It's more principle than anything else. Too much intrusive government. If it is really offensive then the public would react by not attending or buying their merchandise, for of them to change or risk damaging profit losses. But because many people do go to the games and buy the merchandise it must not have really been that offensive.

I'm a white person. And if some team wants to rename themselves the Whiteskins, I don't have a problem with it. I really can't see why anyone else would have a problem with it either.
