ESPN is the worst at evals (in my opinion) but that's the best site to rank you #1 because it's the one the general population sees scrolling across the TV screen.
No, it's not super meaningful, but it plays really well to future recruits seeing that Clemson landed the #1 class. It keeps Clemson in the spotlight.

I love their pride in picking a team . They are so pumped to be winning at the gathering stage , and so deflated when they lose to a 7 loss Coot team at home who's playing their 3rd string QB .
If you consistently get dealt big hands and always end up folding ... what does that make you ?

Don't you get it? They ranked us #1 so they'll be able to say we're underperforming if we don't win the NC. If we do win the NC then they look smart for ranking our class #1. If we don't win it then they're happy because, 1) they hate us and love to see us lose, and 2) they can discredit Dabo as a head coach for not winning with all that #1 talent. Don't let ESPN fool you, they only exist to hate Clemson and love the SEC.

I was listening to 1 of the espn shows yesterday and the rhetoric is "clemson signed its best class ever"

But yeah, I generally ignore their recruiting rankings and only look at Rivals and 247. ESPN has our recruits and classes ranked the lowest of those three almost every year; strange how we're #1 in their eyes now.
