Not only did we not kick the FG

It seemed like we basically conceded possession to them. That play on 4th down and 4 did not appear to be a serious attempt to get a first down and end it. If Dabo had said "I had confidence we could end it with a first down there" then fine. But the play was just a basic handoff that had no chance to get 4 yards.
Did Dabo forget the clock doesn't run on change of possession? Did he think it was 4th and 1? Dabo can defend it all he wants but all signs point to a complete loss of thought in that moment

Well the play he ran was not a good one to pick up 7 yards. Throw the ball try to get the first down the clock stops either way. So I guess he doesn't trust his all world QB either. I'm not real worried about it we won but it was a bad decision

7? It was 4th & 4; I have no issue with the call as Auburn

had to play the entirety of the field knowing an incomplete would do no more than the change of possession. Wayne had already had 3 runs on the final drive of more than 4+ yards and it appeared Auburn's front & Clemson's sticktuitiveness with the run[29 carries by Wayne] was paying dividends.
Clemson had the ball for 10 plays and almost 3 minutes forcing Auburn to burn all its remaining timeouts; Clemson had also already thrown the ball on the drive showing its willingness and determination to maintain possession.
As for Wayne effing up, Wayne agrees and said so. What an incredible game he had, save one misstepped, competitive play.

Just glad we won. You know he should have kicked it. I have never seen a coach just give the other team the ball with that much time. Only up by 6 This will be the last post I make on the subject. We are 1-0 that's all that counts

based on the available information in the game, the resulting win & actually said so even before Dabo offered his explanation.
My OP was received with a lot of misguided, misplaced anger and the thread was deleted as a result, so I bumped this post several times early that morning for that very reason.

Anyway, never is a very long time and if that was your last post on the subject so be it, but most of all, have great day.

Rollout run/pass option play. We really didn't attempt to gain that first down. It was a very odd possession indeed.

The play was to run as much clock as possible. If Gallman does his job on third down Auburn is left with 5 seconds on the clock and nobody is complaining about not going for the kick.

Yeah, but after he did go OOB you have to change your plan.

Running the clock out is no longer an option so you have to move on and take the next best option. I still think going for the FG was the best option, but even if you are paralyzed by fear of a block 6, there's still no reason to not try to pick up the 4th and 4. Running Gallman between the tackles had almost no chance at all of picking up 4 yards in that situation and it seemed like we were just content giving them the ball back. If you really don't want to kick the FG, at least give Watson a chance to make a play and seal the game!

maybe we do try the kick, but after missing an extra point and snapping one so high our holder practically has to stand up to catch it I think confidence was a concern. I still don't see how Ryan got that hold down.

to running a real play on 4th down since the clock stops on a change of possession anyway. An INT doesn't hurt you unless it gets returned a long ways. I don't see why we didn't throw the back shoulder or a fade to Williams or something. Or even a quick slant to get the ball out before pressure to get to Watson to negate the risk of a sack fumble. Anyway other than run right into the heart of the defense.
We literally just gave them the ball back.

get the first down. If they pick it, no worse off than a stuffed run. Percentages on getting the 1st on 4th and 4 are with the throw. The only downside is if a pick is returned. But hey, I would have kicked!

Coach was right... As most of the time. Gallman stays in bounds they have 5 seconds to go 70 yards.... One play .
Coach cold not anticipate a bone headed play by Gallman an experience player.
Coach won... Do you really care how ... Stop the flappen ... NEXT UP!
Next two games are to find the offensive rhythm.... Before Tech.
