I prefer Brownell. Barnes is a TERRIBLE person. Just ask anyone in the basketball office.

I agree. Wish Rick Barnes was here. He won. Hopefully Brownell can as well.

The best thing I can say about Barnes is that he didn't back down to Dean Smith

Rick Barnes is a TRAITOR

And I hope he never has the audacity to show his face in Clemson again, whether that be as an opposing coach, former coach, or casual fan.

Why all the angst for Rick Barnes? He did a good job at Clemson. Then left for a much better opportunity, that paid a lot better. Do you think Brad Brownell is scum because he turned his back on a lesser program for greener pastures at Clemson? I doubt it.

It's not angst, it's plain dislike. Rick Barnes turned his back on us right when he was starting to build a program, and he took the opportunity to slam Clemson and (the state of) South Carolina needlessly in doing so. His leaving and the manner in which he did it left a very bitter taste in the mouths of Clemson fans. So as far as I'm concerned, Rick Barnes is persona non grata at Clemson.
(Oliver Purnell did something very similar and as much as I liked him during his time here, I'm having a very hard time reconciling that with the Colts-like middle of the night departure from Clemson. I thought Purnell's resignation and departure were done in very poor taste. However, in contrast to Barnes, his reasons for leaving were, in my opinion, less controversial so it doesn't irk me as much.)

Didn't really slam CU, but rather the whole state.
We all know why he really left. He was not a good representative for Clemson. Glad he left.

he left. Classless to take a swipe at the state to keep from having to talk about why you're really leaving. The biggest problem with him leaving was the Shyatt years...other than that, good riddance.

He won the ACC COY twice at Clemson - so that's something...

No....Cliff was fired. One too many NCAA investigations. Plus, his recruitment of juco players wasn't going over well in some circles.

in a back-alley. I know the InterWeb wasn't rolling good yet in 1994, but I had never heard that. He just left for other pastures.
I've been looking at articles on-line, because I thought my memory was slipping...they all say Cliff was fired from Auburn and that he left Clemson.

Coach is a classy guy who loves Clemson. I remember him kissing the paw after his last game at Clemson.
When Coach left Clemson, it was time for him to go. He is not the greatest basketball coach, but he gave his all for Clemson. He made us competitive at times and did his best.
We should appreciate what he did. Was his comment that "he is Clemson basketball" boneheaded? Yes and he would probably tell you that too.
The internet fans here should stop acting like juvenile morons and show some respect for the guy.
