but I was taught that the royal family gained their wealth from the oppression and misery of others all around the world. I was taught that we fought for our freedom. Why do we glorify and celebrate them as if they are borderline gods? I am with you. Doesn't seem like an American thing to celebrate imho.

royalty in england are some of the riches people in Europe. Yes they all gained their wealth from the commoner in england and colonies around the world. The only difference between them and the Rockefellers, Kennedys and Vanderbilts was the titles.
I believe we came to America for wealth. I don't buy into freedom of religion as the great motivation for forming this country. Imo, the founding fathers threw the masses a bone to get them to fight.

between the US and Great Britain, the Soviet Union may have eventually consumed everything all the way to the Normandy beaches. By the winter of 1942, the Russians were pushing the "frozen" Nazi's back into Germany. Yes, the Russian's were our allies too in WWII, but they were/are very opportunistic, and could have easily turned on the US after Germany fell. The combined US and British forces, especially their combined air power, would have been too much for the Russians to take on in 1945.
The Royal Family is more for show than anything. Parliament really runs everything, much like our Congress.

Couldn’t care less. My wife is not that into it thankfully. I’m similar with us celebrities though I think they’re cool and all but they are human. Agree with the sentiment that there is a special sort of reason we shouldn’t care about this.

Maybe it helped that is was such beautiful weather that isn't common for England. I loved the ceremony and this couple is really appealing for many reasons. I loved seeing all of the Americans that were in the crowds throughout the street. Many of them were interviewed and they were from a lot of different states. It shows a great respect for a wonderful ally of the United States. But make no mistake, this is a day for the British. They are the best at this type of pomp and they did not disappoint today. They delivered what the viewers were waiting for.

don't press the on button, you don't have to watch the wedding. Isn't modern technology amazing? There are also things like morning walks, chores, going to volunteer to do something for the community, house repairs, etc.... There are many ways to avoid a royal wedding. If you are set on watching tv, there are about three hundred channels outside of ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and FOX. Those other channels aren't broadcasting the event.
