Kevin O'Sullivan

Jun 7, 2015, 7:21 AM

I think there is a real chance we can get him. I know people don't believe that, but Kevin has a certain someone who would love to come back......his wife.

Lay a blank check down D-Rad.

Re: Kevin O'Sullivan

Jun 7, 2015, 7:35 AM

The Florida ad will never let that happen. No matter how much money we throw at him, Florida will better it. Plus, his team is at the top of college baseball right now, always in the top 10 and playing in the CWS this year. I doubt he is gonna make a lateral move for a rebuilding job. I hope he comes, but I think its a 0% chance.

Go back and listen to his comments on Jack's release and

Jun 7, 2015, 7:41 AM

you will probably change your opinion.

Plyler had a Fla. sports reporter on WCCP

Jun 7, 2015, 7:52 AM

Fri. afternoon who was saying that we have a legit shot at O'Sullivan. The reporter said
that there is absolutely no support for Gator baseball. He predicted that they would only have
about 500 fans attend their games this weekend.

He went on to say that if we got within 200k of O'Sully's salary there, that he would probably
be renting a uhaul that day.

I hope Drad at least throws a legit offer his way.

The reporter also said he wouldn't be surprised if Clemson didn't set a new ceiling
for salary of baseball coaches with the hiring of O'sullivan.

I would love to have him at CU.

Florida attendance

Jun 7, 2015, 9:08 AM

Florida supports baseball, not sure who the reporter is that came up with that idea. Usually top 15 in attendance. They had 5800 at yesterday's game. Sully is not leaving Florida. Time to find somebody else

Have you ever heard the expression.....

Just sayin' !!!

you're the first I've heard that says anything positive

Jun 7, 2015, 9:33 AM [ in reply to Florida attendance ]

about Florida baseball attendance. They packed it this weekend because it was a Super Regional against FSU, the absolute best scenario possible.

Have two friends that live down there and both mentioned to me the public (radio, media) complaints about Gator baseball attendance, that they routinely get 800-900 for a weeknight game. One of them has a father in law that is a Bull Gator.

Stats are below - and we all know how college attendance gets fudged (they count season tickets as attendance every game even when they don't show up).

http://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/Clemson-could-angle-for-Florida-baseball-coach-Kevin-OSullivan-37144841

Why would O'Sullivan consider leaving Florida?

The eighth-year coach has been disappointed at times with the lack of consistent attendance and support for his teams, despite fielding a consistent winning product. Florida has also not made many upgrades to McKethan Stadium since a $13 million expansion and addition to the training facility in 2006. The Gators have padded the outfield wall and put in a new video board in recent years.

Florida Baseball Attendance Under O'Sullivan (Percentage of Capacity)

2008 - 3,104 (56.4%)
2009 - 2,981 (54.2%)
2010 - 3,505 (63.7%)
2011 - 3,754 (68.3%)
2012 - 3,935 (71.5%)
2013 - 3,511 (63.8%)
2014 - 3,196 (58.1%)
2015 - 3,502 (63.7%)

Re: Florida attendance

Jun 7, 2015, 11:21 AM [ in reply to Florida attendance ]

There are only 9 programs that have been in the Top 10 in attendance from '08-'15 and with few exceptions, those are typically the only programs to average over 4K in attendance/game each season. The top 5 are essentially the same that whole period...LSU, ARK, Ole Miss, Miss St., and Columbia JC. ;)
Texas, TAMU, FSU, and Clemson are the others. That's it...period.

Florida has never averaged 4K/game...hasn't been in the Top 10. TCU outdraws Florida. Louisville has never averaged 2K/game.

There is one thing to consider...and consider strongly. The Clemson coaching tree of Jack Leggett...they're not in that Top 10...never have been. That said, why were those guys pulling down a lot more coin than Leggett? What are they getting support-wise...facility-wise...that Clemson wasn't offering?

Leggett is as stubborn as the day is long, but consider for a moment why is proteges were taken care of more than he was. Does that make sense? Did Jack ever get approached about leaving, but didn't? I don't know the answer there.

With all due respect, Clemson IS a baseball school...and its' fans for bloody sure think so. In selecting the next coach, go big, or stay home. If we want Sullivan, we get Sullivan...period...and there's nothing Foley can do about it.

Jun 7, 2015, 11:35 AM

So - if we don't get him it's because we didn't want him? I guess that's a good way to avoid disappointment.

Plyler is the morning host and was off Friday...

Jun 7, 2015, 9:53 AM [ in reply to Plyler had a Fla. sports reporter on WCCP ]

was it Philpott that had someone on? He is the noon to 3 host. I know Walt didn't have a guest on.

I like the guy from tcu but I think depending on how bad the wife would like to come back it's more of a possibility than Ppl think...I also read that clemson was willing to make him the highest paid coach in the acc but I'm not sure of the salary numbers if that even comes close to what he's making at Florida

the man's making 600,000 dollars a year where he is.

basically he makes more than Dabo does. He ain't coming.

He makes less than half of what Dabo makes, and there may be more of a draw and a challenge to come back to Clemson. Never say never, stranger things have happened.

base salary last year right? All you have to do is Google "Dabo Swinney salary". If we were still only paying him 500,000 he wouldn't still be coaching here.

is that really base? that sounds really high for a public

How do we know that the wife wants to come back? Just more assuming.Although Clemson is a lovely
place, does she really want to give up wearing flip flops all year long in sunny Florida.Does she really want her husband to make 200K less a year so some of her lifestyle will go?Florida looks like a favorite to win it all so he will probaly be making even more money in a few weeks...zero chance he leaves to go anywhere

No state income tax in Florida and they will top any offer we make. He will have to be deeply unhappy at Florida to make the change.

Dabo makes about 2.5 mm

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unless you know Kevin and his wife personally, no one...

Jun 7, 2015, 12:22 PM

on this site has any idea what he will or won't do, or what they think about money, climate, coming home, etc., etc. I guess it is fun to repeat what you may have heard from someone who has no idea about any of this either, but it is nothing but speculation - no facts involved! (By "you" I am not talking about the original poster)

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

BTW, does anyone on here know Sully's Clemson native wife?

Jun 7, 2015, 12:34 PM

According to Wiki, her name is/was Barbara Jo Davis.
Just wondering if anybody knows her or her family and
their ties to the area. Curiosity killing the cat. :)
I grew up in the area and don't know any Davis's from
around there, but she is probably several years younger
than my semi-old self.

Re: Kevin O'Sullivan

Jun 7, 2015, 1:58 PM

With 3 freshman AA on his team, the future is bright for UF

I recall posters back in the day writing that O'Sullivan was despised at Clemson for trying to steal players girlfriends, among other things. Maybe that was all fiction.

Re: Kevin O'Sullivan

I find it hard to believe that someone would leave the situation at Florida for the situation at Clemson...just makes no sense.

Re: Kevin O'Sullivan

I disagree...

Florida has been better lately, but that doesn't mean it's a better job.

Imo Clemson baseball is among the 20 best jobs in the country.
