Chances Chad Morris goes to Vandy?

Jan 12, 2014, 3:20 PM

I've heard both sides are interested. Vandy really wanted Malzahn before hiring James Franklin so it would make sense that they would go after the guy that has tried to copy his system.

How likely do yall think it is? How detrimental would it be? Who would Clemson go after to replace Morris?

I believe if Vandy offered, Chad would probably go.

Jan 12, 2014, 3:33 PM

He has made it no secret that he wants to be a HC. I think Vandy would be a little risky, but the SEC East is down right now. If you can continue having some success at Vandy, then you will be in prime position for a top notch job.

You're not gonna get a top notch job (MOST of the time) with no prior HC experience.

I think it would be less detrimental than Venables leaving. I think it would be easier for Clemson to attract a new OC just because of the incredible success we've recently had offensively.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I believe if Vandy offered, Chad would probably go.

Jan 12, 2014, 3:38 PM [ in reply to I believe if Vandy offered, Chad would probably go. ]

I disagree with the East being down (two teams finished in the top 5, more than any conference other than the SEC had) but agree that I could see him making the jump.

Vandy has a much higher talent level than they ever have before and iirc they are getting renovations to the stadium this year or next.

the SEC East was 12-23 against Top 25 competition

Jan 12, 2014, 3:45 PM [ in reply to Re: I believe if Vandy offered, Chad would probably go. ]

I'd say that's down.

Especially with UF and UT being the way they were this year.

Coots had their best schedule and weakest SEC East in years and couldn't get it done.

Don't try to sugarcoat it.

Y'all have earned your bragging rights against us for the time being, but you can't argue facts about not getting it done with a favorable schedule and weak division.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Replace Mizzou, USC and Vandy with UF, UGA and UT

Jan 12, 2014, 3:50 PM

and you wouldn't hear anybody claim that the East is down.

Just saying that because its not the brand names finishing on top doesn't mean the division is down

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's because historically

Jan 12, 2014, 3:54 PM

UF, UGA, and UT have accomplished something.

USC, Vandy, And Mizzou have not, so yes, because the bottom feeders are now on top it is an indicator that the division is down.

Just like Duke in the Coastal. Do you think that Duke is that good or that the division as a whole wasn't good?

Just come to grips that with the best coach, best roster, most favorable schedule, and weakest division that y'all still couldn't accomplish anything more than beating us and winning two meaningless bowl games.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well Duke didn't finish in the top 5

Jan 12, 2014, 4:00 PM

and barely finished ranked. So I'd say its because the ACC is crappy that they won the division.

Although if you gav etheir resume to Miami or VT they'd be a top 15 team I'm sure

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The confusing thing with Duke is they should've beaten aTm,

Jan 12, 2014, 4:04 PM

but I agree that Duke wasn't a typical 10-2 ACC team.

I think that teams in the SEC are usually a little overrated while teams like Duke are probably slightly underrated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I actually forgot about Mizzou. Hard for me to get used to

Jan 12, 2014, 5:56 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How do you debate it?

Jan 12, 2014, 6:01 PM

We only lose 3 players on offense.

On defense CB will be an adventure early on similar to our LB unit was this year, but to say we lose a ton of talent isn't really an accurate statement

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That team lived and died with Shaw on offense...

Jan 12, 2014, 6:06 PM

keep him out of the Mizzou game and you think you still win?

That D line is looking much leaner...how big was Clowney's backup? 6'2" 230lbs? Big difference. Yall had a tough time stopping the run and you think you've got just as talented and athletic guys like Clowney to track down RBs from the opposite side of the field?

You're WISHING you didn't lose as much talent and trying to make yourself believe that but the fact is you did. Like I said, your preseason rank of #4 will drop faster than Sammy's 40.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We've won games with Thompson before, yall should know

Jan 12, 2014, 6:14 PM

Shaw not being in the game didn't cause Davis to fumble twice against Mizzou.

DE will be another spot to watch, although its in much better shape than CB. Gerald Dixon comes back with experience and size and either guys on the roster add weight or some of the incoming freshmen that already weigh around 260 get more reps.

DT is set though so I wouldn't say the whole dline takes a hit, just DE

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He did indeed win that game for you...that was back when

Jan 12, 2014, 6:18 PM

Clowney still tried to play some football and our secondary was as porous as Swiss cheese. Things have changed obviously. You honestly expect the streak to go on for eternity? What makes you so confident this go round?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm just saying you can't think that USC is gonna be worse

Jan 12, 2014, 6:28 PM

because its losses a few starters but Clemson is gonna maintain the same level despite losing even more starters.

It just doesn't work that way. Its simple logic

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tell me then, who will be your standouts...your playmakers

Jan 12, 2014, 6:42 PM

the highly touted guys who will be impact players next season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mike Davis, Shaq Roland, Pharoh Cooper

Jan 12, 2014, 6:53 PM

all of which played significant amounts of snaps this year.

Who is gonna be the offense for Clemson? They lose Boyd, Watkins, Bryant and McDowell iirc

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson's D is where a lot of the star power will be.

Jan 12, 2014, 7:03 PM

I remember a few years ago Carolina said you have to have a real defense to win and not a "gimmicky" offense. We'll have both (minus the "gimmicky"). Does Allbarn not run a similar offense? Where did they wind up this season? Oh that's right..the national title game...

On D, it sounds like we'll finally get to see a lock down DB in the backfield with Alexander (the only DB to shut down Sammy in HS). I expect this area to continue to improve as we have recruited a good bit of depth here. Kearse at safety is an athletic, rangy ball hawk who will continue to improve.

Our rushing D was tremendous and we don't lose much off our D line. We'll be stacked at DE....especially if Vic returns...

LB, We've got Stephone Anthony returning, highly touted Dorian O'Daniel, Boulware (head hunter), Kellen Jones, Tony Steward...

Offense, the biggest question mark everyone seems to have is QB. Tajh threw a beautiful ball and threw often, but this offense should be much more run oriented next season. I like our OL, I like the fact we're going to have at least 4 brusing RBs in Gallman, Dye, Flemming, Brooks...all well over 200 lbs...something we've been missing. WR we've got both experience and talent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who wants SOS to retire? I hope he stays at UCS for

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Carolina fans don't care

Jan 12, 2014, 6:09 PM

If Morris stays, Carolina only has to score about 18 points to beat Clemson. If he leaves, and I highly doubt that he will be offered, Clemson is not going to be better for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This makes perfects sense since everyone on your D is

Jan 12, 2014, 6:12 PM

returning next season right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How is Clemson going to score more than 17 points against Carolina without Boyd and Watson?***

Jan 12, 2014, 6:16 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Were not rebuilding...we've reloaded. We had guys that would

Jan 12, 2014, 6:22 PM

have started that were injured this season...a 5 star DB and 4 star back (would've been our biggest back). Our style of offense is designed around the run. Chad has molded his offense after Gus and though Chad passes more and Gus rushes more, the whole idea behind the offense is predicated around the rushing attack.

This makes me believe the drop off won't be as significant as with yall's offense...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats some powerful delusion you've got working

Jan 12, 2014, 6:27 PM

if you think that you have backups that will perform better than returning starters at USC.

Also it contradicts the argument you made that USC is gonna be worse because it losses starters.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It doesn't contradict anything...I say you lose a lot of

Jan 12, 2014, 6:49 PM

talent...so do we. But we've got some very talented players arriving and some that have RS this past season that WOULD have seen snaps. Don't understand how that's being delusional but continue to think your winning some kind of nonsensical argument...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because you're counting on players that have ridden thebench

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Those were just the highlights on offense

Jan 12, 2014, 7:29 PM

And I'm not saying freshmen or redshirt freshmen can't make impacts, but you can't count on them to do it.

USC is returning more players that have proven they can perform and contribute than Clemson is, especially on offense.

And that was my point when you said USC is losing a ton of talent and not going to be as good next year
