What would everyone think of trying to bring in Dawkins to coach the secondary?

He's not playing and our DB's only have one way to go.
I see the determining factor being his interest in coaching. No more, no less.

really smart people are terrible teachers. People who are really gifted at something have a hard time breaking it down for the mortals.

children, and I think most of my colleagues, students, and parents would call me gifted. I don't think you have to be gifted to teach gifted students, but I also think most teachers of the gifted are gifted themselves. People who are not gifted often feel intimidated by gifted students.
I agree with you that all gifted people do not make good teachers. I think teachers in the classroom or on the ball field are reflective and can break down why they are good at what they are good at. That metacognitive awareness is a gift of its own.
I don't think being a gifted athlete guarantees you will be a good coach but neither does it prohibit it.

heck of a lot longer to find it in some than it does in others. some are gifted iq wise,some are athletic, some are bull-shi*****, some are salesmen. i'm still looking for my gift, but i'll find it eventually, if i don't die first!

Obviously, Dawkins was a great player.
However, great players aren't always great coaches.
And, great coaches weren't always great players.
With all due respect, I would personally rather go with a proven coach.

My thought was that he would be someone that could instill toughness and be someone that the players would instantly respect and look up too...
|
