The Peach Bowl is now part of the "New BCS". 12 teams

May 14, 2013, 9:45 PM

will be chosen by a commit to play in the Orange, Peach, Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, and Rose Bowls.

4 of the 12 teams will be in the play-off.
8 of the 12 teams will be in a top tear cancellation game.

i don't get it, so is Orange Bowl but we're still sending

May 14, 2013, 7:50 PM

a team there...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Orange has more bargaining Power than Peach.

May 14, 2013, 9:50 PM

Orange will be a match-up of 2 teams from the power conferences. The selection committee cannot force the Orange to take a mid-major.

At least one mid-major is guaranteed a spot in the "new BCS" pool of 12 teams. However, the mid=major can't go to the Orange.

In the news system

May 14, 2013, 9:53 PM [ in reply to i don't get it, so is Orange Bowl but we're still sending ]

There are two different kinds of bowls.

The Orange Bowl is a contract bowl. In the years it is not in the playoff rotation the ACC is contracted along with the SEC, B1G, and ND for the two slots. The Orange, Sugar, and Rose Bowls are all contract bowls.

The Peach is an access bowl. In the years it is not in the playoff rotation the selection committee sets the matchup out of all the eligible teams. No conference is assured a slot in the Peach Bowl. The Peach, Cotton, and Fiesta are all access bowls.

There are 7 at large teams.

May 14, 2013, 10:12 PM

One has to be the SEC/B1G runner-up.

One has to be the MAC/C-USA/Sun Belt/Mountain West champion.

So there are really only 5 at large teams in the pool of 12.

Great. ACC bowl options getting slimmer. According to

May 14, 2013, 7:48 PM

ESPN article Music City and Gator will be rotational with ACC and Big Ten rather than exclusive with the ACC because of this bump up with Russell Athletic. Way to go Swoffie lose the New Years Day Gator again.

Have they lost their mind!?!

May 14, 2013, 9:31 PM

I know the Chik-Fil-A bowl is gone, but make the gator the top bowl not the Russell Athletic. What we going to place the fifth place team from the Big Ten in our top bowl?

New Bowl Line-Up

May 14, 2013, 10:55 PM

There will be 12 teams selected for the top tear bowls/play-off.

Everyone ranked in the top 10 will almost certainly be in the top tear bowls/play-off.

The following is after those 12 teams are selected. (So SEC 1 may actually be the 4th or 5th best in the SEC).

Citrus - SEC 1 vs B1G 1
Outback - SEC 2 vs B1G 2
Russel - SEC 3 vs ACC 1
Gator - B1G 3 vs ACC 2
Charlotte - SEC 4 vs. ACC 3
Nashville - SEC 5 vs. ACC 4

If this system was used in 2012, The Russel Bowl would have been LSU vs. Clemson.
