ESPN's bio for Deshaun Watson says he runs a 4.95 forty.

Well, maybe he did, but it must have been in the three legged sack race at the Red Elephant county fair.

Watson is not a "freak" athlete

May 31, 2013, 1:47 AM

I spoke to the head of a national high school scouting/recruiting site about Watson and his comments on Deshaun Watson was think David Greene, the old UGA QB. Average arm, speed, athleticism, but amazing intangibles such as football IQ and leadership skills. Rare high school QB that calls his own plays.

lol Everybody I know who's seen him play says he is indeed a freak. I don't care if his coaches hand clock him at 5.5, the kid is a baller who is playing at a high level and shattering records. Can't wait till we get his LOI.

David Greene is one of the best college QBs ever

I have multiple generations of Clemson in my family. This is the guy's scouting reporting on Watson, not mine.

I have found it interesting guys with strong arms tend to have slower 40 times than average usually. Guys who have speed and a strong arm are pretty rare.

Since he is such a highly rated dual threat I would suspect he is a little faster than that time but not every good runner has blinding speed

4.65

May 31, 2013, 7:29 AM

Not a blazer, but can move. There's no telling when that number was taken. And ^ that guys comparison is pretty crappy IMO. He's definitely a better athlete than that.

That's odd BC it wasn't long ago Trent dilfer broke down Watson and said Watson was a freak and had a big arm but had some minor flaws in his mechanics.

Well here is what scout.com said

May 31, 2013, 11:02 AM

The epitome of a field general, Watson is one of the few quarterbacks on either the college or the high school level who calls and adjusts plays at the line of scrimmage. Doesn't possess a huge arm, but has more than enough arm with a quick release and good accuracy. Can run if pressed, but definitely a pass first quarterback - Scott Kennedy

Same guy that said, think David Greene. Saying a high school QB is like David Greene is a compliment. Guy won 42 games as a starter in 4 years.
