Schiano question for Southerners

Nov 27, 2017, 10:41 AM

Do you think the fact that Schiano is from New Jersey is a factor as to why Vols fans aren't enthused?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. Ties to Penn State's past issues. Its a stretch to

Nov 27, 2017, 10:48 AM

think he knew anything about it...

Well, in fact he coached directly under Sandusky for 5 years. The child abuse was already ongoing before Schiano was there 1990-1995. Old Joe knew, the administration knew and if you think that is was not known or whispered amongst the coaches you would be dreaming. All in the name of preserving the Ped State brand, old Joe's legacy and the almighty dollars from said football team. It was going in the Old Joe's football facility for crying out loud, nothing would go on without their knowledge. Anyone there at the time is definitely suspect in being complicit and where there is smoke there is fire. I applaud the UT fans for raising their voices, along with the State Reps and the AD needs fired for being stupid. Same with Art Briles at Baylor, he went out and got some shady kids that could play and promptly went to ###### coeds under his watch. You think anyone pays $50k a year to send their daughters off to a private Baptist University to be raped by football players? Then have it covered up by all involved?

No, being from NJ had nothing to do with it, my reason is above.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm dreaming then. No way everyone turned a blind eye to

Nov 27, 2017, 3:31 PM [ in reply to Re: No. Ties to Penn State's past issues. Its a stretch to ]

an old man having forcible (or otherwise) sex with teen age boys in the State facility. NO WAY.

I'm amazed that there are people who actually believe that EVERYONE knew about it.

No, Vols think they deserve better. They want Kiffen or some other "proven" savior for their program, but do not understand the situation poor decisions have put them in.

Where was the outrage with Peyton Manning allegations or how about the group of football players involved in the sexual assault a few years ago? They are hypocrites.

I dont think so....

Nov 27, 2017, 11:00 AM

its just the fact hes not a great coach and a very bizarre choice....just basing it on his coaching history alone you have a hard time arguing he'd be a good choice for any Power 5 program.

I think the ties to the scandal at PSU helped perpetuate the whole thing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very odd choice*****

Re: Schiano question for Southerners

Nov 27, 2017, 11:02 AM

No. The whole Penn State thing is problematic....and he doesn't have any recruiting ties in the South so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it as well.

Screw Calford.

No

Nov 27, 2017, 11:04 AM

They fired a guy just like him a few weeks ago. Why the same personality type again? They don't care about the Penn State stuff, that's a convenient ruse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly if he had Chip Kelly’s resume hired in a heartbeat***

.05% the reason. Satan himself would get hired if it ensured a SEC championship and beating Alabama.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lets be real here. They protested because he's a mediocre

Nov 27, 2017, 2:17 PM

coach and a really questionable hire. The Penn State stuff was a convenient excuse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, Vols fans would hire Hitler if he could...

Nov 27, 2017, 3:46 PM

lead them to an SEC championship.

Vols fans want a proven coach who has a national championship on his resume`. Hiring someone who doesn't is a roll of the dice. Hiring someone who does have a NC resume` and was on staff when the biggest scandal in the history of NCAA football occurred is beyond rolling the dice. It's just not worth the risk.

It was the coupling of those two issues not so much one or the other, imo.

Well they aren't getting a coach that's won a title

Nov 27, 2017, 3:55 PM

I can pretty much guarantee you that... unless they want to give Les Miles a call.

Saban? lol
Meyer? lol
Swinney? lol
Fischer? Just turned down an arguably better job offer at A&M

Who else has even won a title recently that's still in coaching?

Chizik - run out of Auburn and now retired
Miles - run out of LSU and maybe retired
Brown - run out of Texas and now retired
Carrol - NFL
Tressel - run out of Ohio St amidst a scandal and i think he's now the president of Youngstown St
Coker - run out of Miami and now retired
Bowden - retired
Fulmer - run out of Tenn and now retired

Yeah... nobody... except Les Miles.
