Now is the time for Clemson to consider artificial turf.
Oct 8, 2015, 9:09 AM
|
|
Last weekend the field appeared to hold up well from my vantage point in the stands, however, I'm sure it was a mess for the players. And with more rain in this weekend's forecast, I think the time is now to have a serious conversation about artificial turf. I know a lot of folks have been pushing for it, but I've always had reservations. After last week, I hate to say it, but they were right.

injuries, and football should be played on real grass. There have been plenty of stadiums that had artificial turf, and put grass back in.

injuries each year? I think you'll find the third paragraph interesting.
http://espn.go.com/espn/print?id=13765174
TCU defensive end James McFarland's season ended before it even began -- when he broke his toe during a summer camp practice.
It was just the beginning of a nationwide trend that TCU happens to be at the heart of, and the injury didn't even happen on a tackle, collision or violent play of any sort.
"Guy stepped on a sprinkler head," said TCU coach Gary Patterson, still sounding incredulous a month later. "Five of the injuries have been noncontact. Some years you get good luck; some years you don't have it. You've gotta live with it."

those fear tactics won't work with me young man; perhaps some of the soccer moms will fall prey to your cunning ways, but not this guy.
next thing you'll want us to field turf our homes since most accidents happen there?
where will your madness end?

will then don the all purple for home games, helping camouflage our intermediate & downfield passing ganes while also concealing our blitz packages. can you imaging boulware erupting out of a field of purple on some poor unsuspecting QB?
could we make this happen in time for the fsu gane?

Agreed I also think we should get rid of the Brick Wall and bring back the old school wall but paint it purple instead of Orange.
Give our players even more opportunity to blend in.
If we do this then we need to change our main jersey color to Purple and just wear orange on occasion like when we are playing a cupcake like Scar. We dont need an advantage to beat them.

I couldn't believe how the field looked - beyond just being damp, you wouldn't have known a game had been played on it. The grass was perfect, no divots, holes or uneven spots. Civil Engineer here - I've got a bit of experience with this, albeit not nearly as much as the people in charge of our field. I was honestly amazed at the post-game condition. Our turf management program is the best in the nation and it showed Saturday night; while we're handing out accolades, they truly deserve some.

I'm sorry, this is one of the benefits of living in the south. We get sun long enough in the year to hold a grass turf and ours is among the best in the country. No way I'd be onboard for artificial turf. Seven home games on that crap and we'll lose 4 more players a year to ACL or other injuries.

I hope you are kidding. If the turf held up Saturday it will hold up every game. Btw Saturday the turf had no issues at all. Leave the fake turf for domes and northern climates not for perfect growing climate the Clemson offers.
