Tax office rejected my protest on my property value

Nov 2, 2018, 10:44 AM

What do now?

They valued my vehicle at 132% of what I actually paid for it brand new.

This effectively added 32% to my tax bill ($176)

I submitted the paperwork with the bill of sale, 1 week later I received a letter where they said their value was accurate and they would not change it.

Protest again? Hire conservativealex?

Did you show them your bill of sale?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:46 AM

One thing cars rarely do is increase in value.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, submitted with protest***

Nov 2, 2018, 10:50 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you go to the tax office?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:52 AM

I think they'd have a hard time doing that face to face

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Where else would I go?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:54 AM

Yes, but they take it in the back (lulz) and review it later.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe you mailed it in?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:58 AM

Thats messed up.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd go to a lawyer with the bill of sale.

Nov 2, 2018, 10:51 AM [ in reply to Did you show them your bill of sale? ]

But my car increases EVERY year in value. See, I have high mileage. But for SOME reason, Lexington County requires I submit a documented odometer reading every freaking year. THEN they lower it, every freaking year. I can qualify for high mileage 3 or 4 years in a row with what I have on it now. Sucks, but whatever.

you'd hire a lawyer over $176?***

Nice. I'm about to pay $400 in taxes on a boat I don't own***

Nov 2, 2018, 10:48 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Them feels

Nov 2, 2018, 10:50 AM

I had to do that last summer, for a boat I didn't own, to a county that I didn't live in.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, but you didn't pay it the first year

Nov 2, 2018, 10:51 AM [ in reply to Nice. I'm about to pay $400 in taxes on a boat I don't own*** ]

Isn't that the dumbest thing......don't pay and let them confiscate the boat.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've wondered about that

Nov 2, 2018, 10:57 AM

I sold a boat to a guy in Alabama or Mississippi or some such place a long way away, and the tax came due the next year. I asked the CHS county Auditor what would happen if I didn't pay the taxes? He said they'd find the boat and put a lien on it. I said how would you know where it is? He didn't want to tell me they wouldn't do squat about it for a 2 year old 20' Sea Hunt, but I kinda got that feeling after he said "well you do what you have to do".

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How are you getting along without?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:54 AM [ in reply to Nice. I'm about to pay $400 in taxes on a boat I don't own*** ]

I feel like that has to be like losing an arm or something.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't pay the taxes. I have a plan

Nov 2, 2018, 10:49 AM

When the Bassmasters comes back to Hartwell this April, we will physically block the boat ramps at Green Pond. We will get Anderson County's attention then.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe you didn't do it right.

Nov 2, 2018, 10:49 AM

Did you make a large sign and parade around the front the tax assessor's office while yelling a clever chant? Did you topple over any statues? Did you throw bricks through the front glass of a local retailer and then steal items off the shelf and run down the street carrying them? Did you turn over a police car and set it on fire?

If I'm reading correctly, I find your method of protesting pretty laughable, given the level that protests have risen to in these modern times.

Taking notes

Nov 2, 2018, 10:53 AM

Tractor is being delivered today, will have them drop at tax office to assist with flipping over police cars.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Niiice, go with the JD?

Nov 2, 2018, 10:55 AM

Perfect day to see how hard it is to get stuck.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, 3025, hoping to sell the Kubota today

Nov 2, 2018, 10:56 AM

Looking forward to the hydrostatic cutting my rd frontage b/c ANDERSON COUNTY WON'T FREAKING CUT IT

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You probably don't want them to cut it

Nov 2, 2018, 11:01 AM

They cut mine every now and then, but not frequent enough so it looks terrible after a few weeks. Then, when they do come through they drag so much gravel and trash with them, it becomes a nightmare when you have to cut it. They don't GAF, they'll plow right through glass bottles, gravel piles, asphalt, etc.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't get the so much

Nov 2, 2018, 11:02 AM

but they have cut my internet 2 separate times and ran into my mailbox.
