How have they outscored their opposition in every inning this year? if that was the case, they would be undefeated right?

“Clemson wasn’t that much better with Trevor Lawrence, if at all.”

Just FYI - I think they looked at run totals for Clemson and all opponents for each inning so it is based on totals for the year.

It's a large sample size.

For example...

Make up a hypothetical 5-game stretch.

In the 4th inning of that 5-game stretch we gave up 0, 0, 1, 4, and 0 runs. We score in those corresponding 4th innings 2, 1, 17, 0, and 268 runs (that last half-inning is in the CWS against the coots in the Title Game). In the game we gave up 4 in the 4th inning, we lost 4-3.

So, even though we outscored our opponents in the 4th inning by a remarkable total of 288-5 during those 5 games, we still have a loss to show for it.

When you play over 50 games in a season, you're gonna have a lot of ebbs and flows. But if you keep that scoring stat in tact, generally you should be one of the best teams in the nation.
