Need some help regarding BBQ Smokers for Tailgating....

Jul 29, 2012, 11:02 AM

Do any of you have any suggestions for a really good but not overly expensive smoker for tailgating? I'd like to find one that is well built and keeps a good internal temp without having gaps into to let the heat escape. I have done a little practicing over the last 3-4 months on a small brinkman I have, but am ready to take it to the next step and get one with a firebox. I really don't want to spend more than 300-400, but might consider getting one on a trailer if I could find a decent one in the 900-1200 range. Any ideas or advice? I Need to cook a bunch this season to get up to my optimal playing weight of 5'4", 315 in time for our 2013 road to the BCS Championship! Thanks!

Slow down...one at a time. I can't read all these at once!

in your upper range of trailered stick burners...your options (and certainly not a complete list):

Lang Cooker - model 48 (going to be probably 2500 or more for the trailer version) - one of my dream cookers, but cannot justify the money. there is a smaller model, but don't think it comes on a trailer.

Weber Smokey Mountain (not a stick burner, but charcoal and takes wood chunks well) - this is very portable because it comes apart in three sections. I own this cooker (18.5 inch model, but also comes in 22.5 inch). 299 for the 18.5, 399 for the 22.5. Produces fantastic 'cue, but can sometimes be a much longer cook for some reason.

There are others (many) out there, but for what you are looking for, these two would be my choice...good luck
