Pretty good interview with Obama.

So I think Michelle's mandate is a lot stronger.”Holding up a copy of Obama’s hefty new memoir A Promised Land, Kimmel asked, “Did you make it that long to make sure Trump never reads it?”“I don’t think it would have had to be 700 [pages] to make sure he didn’t read it from what I hear,” Obama replied, laughing. From there, the pair got into some small talk about who sold more copies of their book on the first day, Barack or Michelle, and why the former president is “afraid” of his teenage daughter Sasha.Showing viewers the new cover of InStyle magazine with an extremely laid-back Obama on the cover along with the headline “That’s What I Do,” Kimmel asked, “How many martinis in were you on this shoot?” When Obama said it was shot around noon, the host joked, “Oh, so you have no excuse.”It wasn’t until after a break that they got into the more pressing current events, such as the current president’s continued refusal to concede the 2020 election to Joe Biden.“Do you feel that when you congratulated Biden and Senator Harris that you were premature in doing that?” Kimmel asked.“No, I thought I was right on time,” Obama said, laughing. “There seems to be some lag. The communication system in the White House used to be better. It was real time. There were a lot of computers there that actually tell you what is going on around the world.”All the Best Late-Night Jokes About Rudy Giuliani’s Literal MeltdownAsked if there are any secret spots “someone could hide” in the White House if they were about to be removed, Obama joked, “Well, I think we can always send the Navy SEALS in there to dig him out.”“I wish the transition was going better, because we lose time during these crises,” Obama added, more seriously. “When I came in, we were in the middle of a big crisis, the financial crisis. George W. Bush, he and I had obviously big policy differences, but he’s a good man, he’s a patriot. And he ordered everybody on his team to work seamlessly with us on the transition. Could not have been more gracious, could not have been more helpful. And that actually helped us be able to get a head start on trying to stem what could have been a great depression instead of a great recession.”Later, Kimmel asked Obama about the story that closes out his new book: the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.“Part of the reason I ended the book on the bin Laden raid was, it was also at the time when the whole birther conspiracy was being floated by Donald Trump,” Obama said. “So, you get the split-screen that I was experiencing during my presidency, where we are planning this huge, risky, difficult operation that involves all the power and technology and skill and courage of the U.S. military and intelligence. And at the same time I’m dealing with a guy who’s saying that I wasn’t born where I was born.”Whitney Cummings on Cancel Culture, Comedy Creeps, and the Death of ‘Roseanne’“It gives you an example of the weirdness of modern politics, where you want the president to be focused on the job, not on a circus,” he continued. “But the circus is what a lot of times is dominating the press. And ends up distracting a lot of the White House. And one of the things I always had to do was to try to screen that stuff out to make sure that I’m keeping my eye on the ball.”In response to what Kimmel called the “preposterous” conspiracy theory that Trump recently pushed claiming the bin Laden raid was faked, Obama said, “Look, I mean, it would be preposterous except for the fact that it’s the president of the United States retweeting it,” adding, “That’s just not what you want out of a commander-in-chief.”Ultimately, Kimmel ended his interview by asking Obama if he and the first lady “made love” on the night he successfully ordered the killing of bin Laden. “When I read the book and you were talking about hearing people outside the White House chanting ‘USA, USA, USA,’ I had an image in my head, I did.”“I suspect that she was asleep,” Obama said. “Because the truth of the matter is, most of the time, by the time I was done working, she’d be snoozing.” When Kimmel said he didn’t need to make excuses, his guest replied, “It’s not an excuse, it’s a lament.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. OMG! Is Obama still talking. His latest memoir on audio runs 29 hours with Obama doing the talking. He's 59. How many more memoirs are we to be treated with?

He sold 890,000 copies the first day, so he will probably write a few more.

Obama is just as big of a narcissist as Trump in my opinion. He however is cool and smooth very much unlike Trump. For Obama to even consider running for President on his thin record was much like Trump, quite audacious. Obama took his Senate seat January 2005 and was elected President November 2008. Honestly, if he were a white(100%), quite liberal Senator from IL, would he not have been ridiculed for declaring for the Presidency a little over 2 years after going to the Senate? In my opinion, both McCain and Romney would have been a better President. He's definitely a smooth operator. I think the country felt a bit of guilt over racism and obviously many blacks were proud to have an African-American running. He's likable and has a decent mid range jumper. I wish him well and harbor no antipathy towards him, but just don't think he was the best choice. I hate to admit it, but I think Hillary would have performed better than Obama. I find nothing likable about her and suspect her jump shot is totally lacking.

Not at all Chuckston. I didn't say he won because he was black, but I do think it helped him initially to be a man of color. The African-American vote turned out en masse. He was appealing to young people and for folks looking for something new over an old John McCain and a stiff Mitt Romney. I don't think one could argue that Obama had the same credentials as either McCain or Romney. I could care less what color he is. I voted for Tim Scott and will do so again when he runs. I previously voted for my state senator Ralph Anderson who was black and also a Democrat. If Condoleezza Rice were to run, horrors Chuckston---I would vote for her--a black female. I'm not apologetic for the initial post, if you thought you sniffed a hint of racism from me, you were off base. I don't care what color a person is. None of us chose our pigmentation.

He probably lost some votes being black too. He was never going to have a problem beating McCain and Palin though. It was a blowout. He took the popular vote by over 10 million and he got 365 electoral votes.

Agree that there are folks who would vote against a black candidate then and now. It was a perfect storm for Obama to be successful. He was young, charismatic, energetic and delivered speeches well. He offered hope and change. People were fatigued with the war in Iraq and the economy was in the toilet under a Republican administration. Blacks were rightly so proud to have a black man running and I do believe some folks, probably not a massive number felt inclined to vote for Obama because of his origins. Maybe that was balanced off by others who would vote against him. I definitely didn't vote for Obama either time, but admit that while I was not happy with the result, I was proud that our country was capable of making such a choice. I personally don't think he was a good President. Leading from behind and drawing red lines in Syria and then saying he didn't say that were not good looks. I think he definitely benefitted from a gentle press. Trump followed Obama which to me says a lot about how Obama performed. Had the public perceived things were going well at the end of Obama's term, Clinton would probably have been elected especially with Trump's constant missteps.

that so many see Trump as exactly the same as Obama or even Biden. That there aren't clear differences between them from a personality standpoint. I don't know where that disconnect from reality stems from but it's freaking bizarre (assuming they truly believe what they say) to see it expressed so often.
