Bought a used car for my middle kids today

bought a 1994 S10 years ago for them, apparently teen girls frown on beat up trucks with no AC. Got a 2004 Ford Focus with AC and automatic tranny (bleh.)
Spent all of $2700 for a car with 69069 (NOICE) miles on it. I'll need to address some rust areas but pleased with the vehicle.
This makes vehicle number five at the casa.
BTW, not a poor, my first car was a 1983 Escort station wagon with fake wood paneling. My dad prided himself on giving us #### to drive knowing it wouldn't kill his insurance. Just a chip off the old wood.

We had 6 cars for 5 legal drivers because I keep a big truck and a small truck.
Getting rid of two of those drivers has practically been like getting an extra paycheck each month.
Our strategy is the same. We keep one nice car so we have something that is always reliable. The rest of them are older models.

2 beater trucks, 1 decent truck, a car for mom and mom's old car. Their yard looked like a used car lot. Only one in the garage, the rest scattered around the yard.

Just a dad.
You’re probably still too rich for my blood to be honest with you. I’m thinking my first car cost $200. So my kid’s should be under a grand. It probably won’t happen. But it doesn’t mean that I won’t spend a decade looking for it. By then, they will be able to afford their own vehicle.

I had three kids in college at the same time

I bought the oldest a 2006 Ford Focus with about 60k miles on it in 2014. That was her "good" car. They all got a beater for a couple years then a "good" car to go off to college their last two years after community college. She is 25 yrs old, owns a home, saves 12% of her income in 401k with 6% company match and 3% company gift like a pension, makes over 100k a year and still drives that car. She has about 25k saved up for her next car. I told her when she graduated to pay off her student loans as quickly as possible and then put a monthly car payment into savings and buy your next car. She listened to me.
All three kids are working and all three still have their "good" car and 2 out of 3 are saving for next car, while the third is still paying student loans and then hopefully he will put money away for car.
My second kid got hit in the rear. The insurance totaled the car and gave her about 5 grand. We fixed the lights for about 100 bucks, took a hammer to the dents, but they are still bad, a can a spray paint and from 100 yards you can hardly tell if you are not looking too close. She paid the rest of her student loan off and started saving for a car.
I still constantly ask them about maintenance. They are all really good about it.
I was constantly working on cars in the beater days. We had 6 cars at one time.
They are all gone as of 2 months ago, I feel rich after payday.

To have to learn to fix his own vehicle, and boy has it worked.
He’s learned to change oil, do brake jobs, jump a starter in a school parking lot with a screwdriver, bypass an alarm. Thanks British manufacturing!

I think it was around $1000.
DadofAyejoe insisted that all of his children had to be able to change oil, change a flat tire and jump a dead battery before we could apply for our permit. And whoa be unto you if he caught you going to the gas station and not filling the tank all the way. Had to keep a hand written log of mileage, services, repairs and fuel.
Learned to drive stick shift in his '76 Stingray (if you don't count driving the tractor at the farm) while on vacation in NMB when I was about 14.
Times have changed.

I'm an uglier, less fertile version of Greenr.
FBcoach is an uglier, poorer, dumber, trashier, and less fertile version of Greenr.

might as well ask why is a tree good? Why is the sunset good? Why are ##### good? Man, he's Greenr! He's got a beard that rivals a pirate, a sense of style that rivals Lil Nas X, taste in music that rivals Bill Walton, and the sexual-prowess that rivals Wilt Chamberlain or Antonio Cromartie What's not to love???
You're my boy, MauldinT, but Greenr... well... Greenr... he's my MAN.

His isn't full of spagetti sauce, taco meat, sawmill gravy, nacho cheese, and chocolate wonderfall remnants from thrice weekly trips to Golden Corral.

Not a bare patch to be found, and only a few grey hairs so far. Between my hair and hygiene, no man can compare.

and it looks GLORIOUS with the beard. In college I had semi long hair but I was fatter and baby faced. The beard adds so much more to the overall aesthetic.
Thinking of going mullet for shi>ts and giggles but the wife is NOT on board.
