Why are Cincinnati 9-0 and Coastal Carolina 11-0

not in the playoffs?
Because a group of people judged that their schedules were not worthy of a CFP spot. And that same group has judged that Ohio St should not be penalized for only playing 6 games against weak opponents.
And what is their criteria for making that decision? The so called eye test. Can anyone define exactly what that is?
How does 6 games look better than 9 or 11? How do you know the competition is better for Ohio St than Cincinnati or Coastal? Are there common opponents? Head to head match-ups? Did Ohio St really win the Big 10 since the rules were changed to put them in the game? Will the Big 10 change the rules again concerning COVID? Did they do that for any other Big 10 team this year?
So, what is the eye test if you are not measuring oranges to oranges?

Maybe look at Cincy for ACC since ND is too arrogant to join

Actually, if ND joins, we are at 15 - thus we would be looking for #16. Personally, I would like to kick UofL trash to the curb (cincy isn't much better) and take both service academies.
ACC becomes two big divisions each.
North; BC, Cuse, Pitt, ND, (assume Cincy), UofL, VT and UVA/Duke? South: Clemson, GT, FSU, daU, Wake, Cheat, State, Duke/UVA.
The problem with this is that the northern schools lose their Florida/Southern ties. They might not like that.

Cincy has one "good" (and I use the term lightly) season and you clowns want to add them to the ACC? Thats so laughable its absurd. They literally bring nothing to the table except a bunch of dead-beat fans from Ohio. Youre the same idiots that wanted Uconn and few years back too. Good grief.

mentionns the "Eye Test". I have heard them say over and over again that Clemson looks "like National Champions getting off the bus." That has got to be just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard, it means absolutely nothing when the helmets are strapped on between the white lines.
Did little Clyde Edwards-Helaire from LSU look like a National Champion football player getting off the bus last year? Heyall No, but he sure ate our lunch, and is doing the same thing right now in the NFL. Champions come in all sizes and shapes, and an "Eye Test" is a p!ss poor way to try and pick one out.

I get what you are saying, but OSU is much better than both of those teams.
Forget what any of the people you mentioned above have to say about it.
Vegas would have OSU as at least a 3 score favorite over both of those teams.
That tells you how they stack up against OSU.
Vegas is not biased, and while Vegas isn't perfect, they have a pretty good idea of how teams stack up.
Arguing that OSU doesn't deserve entry with a 6 game schedule is completely valid.
Arguing that Coastal or Cincy, much less both, deserve a spot simply for being undefeated is not valid.

Slight quibble.
Vegas sets the point spread not based on what they think the final outcome will be. They set the point spread on what they think will bring equal bets on both teams.
They know the general public thinks Ohio State is 12 points better than Cincy, so they will set the line at 12. If too many bets come in on Ohio State, they will move the line up. If too many come in on Cincy, they will move it down.

Very true. Good thing the general public isnt stupid and thinks that Coastal or Cincy is one of the 4 best teams over Ohio St.

The Big 10 is already meeting to relax their Covid rules

so that most, if not all Ohio State players will be eligible to play against us.
Hypocrisy knows no bounds in the Big 10 Hierarchy. They went from chastising the rest of us for even playing this year, to constantly changing their own rules to protect their prized pig.

Changing the rules during the season isn't a good look, but the 21 days they originally had in place is at least more than the ACC or SEC. I'm not sure about the other conferences.

The difference is, the SEC and ACC enforced what they put in place...the Big 10 put a number in for show and backed off of it when it needed to.

I don't disagree with you. I'm only saying that they're using that as their excuse to justify it since they're still at or above the number of days required by the other conferences.

in the form of the “eye test” and assumptions being made about how good teams are (or aren’t), do you honestly feel that Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina have performed better than Ohio State this year in terms of the objective factors?

My own personal opinion, which will along with a dime, get

you 10 cents worth of something, is this.
Coastal and Cincy have proven that they are big fish in a small pond this year. But, I don't think either of them would be able to stay on the field with ANY of the four playoff teams this year. If all other factors are roughly equal, superior athletes will win out most of the time. Are there exceptions? Sure. The US 1980 Hockey Team was nowhere near the equal of the Russians, but they wanted it more that particular day. The fact that America LOVES them some underdogs is why people get so wound up in this discussion every year. But, what ultimately would happen is that in an EIGHT team playoff, one of these underdogs may in fact win a first round game sometime, but then would be crushed the next time around. This happens now in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The Cinderella Slipper never fits after midnight.

Good points. I heard Dino Babers from Syracuse a year or two ago saying he felt expanding the playoffs would only make it harder for a team like Syracuse or a similar team to win a NC. He basically said that Syracuse could have a chance to upset a team like Clemson or Alabama in one single game, but the longer the playoffs go on the more the difference in talent level and depth would matter. He basically argued that expanding the playoffs would only result in teams like Clemson and Bama dominating even more due to the amount of depth they have.

for the big money power five holding a monopoly over the playoffs and bigger bowl games to keep the group of five on the outside looking in...at the end of the day let them in and lets see where the cards fall ..if coastal or cinci couldnt get in this year then a group of five will never get in..its all one scheme by the power five to keep control on all of college football.

I’m sorry but if you don’t know the answer to your questions then you clearly have no clue what you’re watching during a football season. It really is a no brainer that Cincy or Coastal would not be able to stay on the field with Ohio St or ND or Clemson.

How do you know that these two teams could not beat Ohio St. They never get the chance to prove themselves but Oklahoma gets in most years just to get their butts stomped.

Im not entirely sure why everyone is so impressed just because there is a 0 in the loss column. It means so very little when talking about non P-5 schools, and THAT is why they get left out, and they should get left out.

My guess is because Ohio St would beat both of those teams by however many points they wanted to.
