Problem solved. The military doesn’t do “jumping jacks”, they do “side straddle hop’.

Exactly! I have done a few thousand in my military career! A recruit said something to a Drill Instructor about doing jumping jacks. All I heard from the quarter-deck for the next 30 seconds was a loud question repeated over and over: "what are jumping jacks" what are jumping jacks what are jumping jacks? As he was about - oh 3 inches from the recruits face!

Nobody dared say anything ever again about this: mythical thing called jumping jacks!

They are side-straddle hops and that's the end of it!
