Concerned about our RB situation next year

I assume ETN is leaving. What a talent. I don’t see any RBs on our roster that can move the pile. I think bowman is that guy but he is a late enrollee. Plus he has the offense to learn and him coming in late puts him behind. I hope I’m wrong.

Lyn J Dixon has been excellent for us and he will continue that next year - plus we will see how quickly Bowman can become a factor.

Bowmen push the pile. He doesn’t have the size of any of the backs on the team now. With or with out Bowmen this team is in good hands at the back position.

One of the hardest thing for young backs is picking up on pass blocking for blitzes. If you can play then the quicker you do that the quicker you can play

If ETN does decide to leave he will be missed, but I am not too concerned about the RB room. I thought both Mellusi and Dukes looked good in limited roles this year. Lyn J's running style is vastly different than ETN, he has to get more North, South. Bowman will come in the summer and it will take him a while to pick up the offense. You will see a rotation with those four. Each bring sort of their on specialty. Mellusi will be the power, short down and distance guy, Dukes will be the shifty, catching out of the backfield back and of course Lyn J will see the bulk at the beginning being the elder statesman. This will allow Bowman a slow integration in the offense. When you have four talented guys, They'll ride the hot hand if you will. Take courage friend, things are going to be great whatever decision ETN makes! Go tigers

A-men...Travis is probably a whole lot smarter than you give him credit for being...it would not surprise me at all if he returns for his Sr. Year...he has a great family and obviously has had good guidance along the way...think of what he might have been doing Monday night about midnight in the locker room with the other inmates! Travis coming back would make his NFL stock go up...and Clemsons stock...he can get insured and stay and get 2 degrees if he wants...never give up on bright kids...Dabo chose them for a reason..i.e. Wilkins, Ferrel, Bryant, etc...they don't just automatically get stupid! Sometimes with the right people it's not all about the money right now!

The only reason he would come back would be to get a graduate or additional undergrad degree to solidify life after the NFL because he knows backs have a very short life in the pros

Obviously he could still forgo his senior season, I’m not saying it won’t happen, but he has a lot to gain by returning.
1) RB draft class this year is very deep. Swift, Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor would all likely be taken before him. Recent mocks have only had one of those, Swift, being taken in the 1st round. Next year, Travis could be RB1
2) RB’s have such a short life in the NFL that draft position is crucial. If he’s taken in the 1st round (top 10-15) he‘ll make himself some good money for the few years he’s in the league. Won’t happen this year.
3) Pretty weak schedule again next year, so he’ll likely be able to sit out the 2nd half of most games and keep his workload down. Hopefully will be used more come playoff time...
4) No history of injuries, but like we’ve seen before, he can get a huge insurance policy and protect himself in case it happens.
5) Would be the front runner for Doak Walker and Heisman candidate
I think he comes back

You're right, Elliott hates running the football.

As evidenced by the read option incorporating the QB run has been an integral part of our offense for years, and why Etienne broke the Clemson career rushing record in just 3 years.

However, still too dense to read RB getting the ball instead of the QB. The fact that ETN got so few rushes versus OSU & LSU hindered us greatly as both defenses got to cue in on Trevor with both coverage & rushes. The fact that T-Law was off target most of the night only compounded the lack of running game.

(with baseball fan saying triples are better than home runs taking first place) yet I'm the idiot...ok. Well now here you are bashing multi national championship winning coaches, just like you bash players and coaches during every game. Oh I know, you should go on one of your patented Tanner Muse rants even though he and Nolan Turner played a heck of a game in the championship.

We'll have a drop off when ETN leaves simply because he's a very special talent that is hard to find. His combination of power, ability to read blocks, and speed is very rare. That doesn't mean that Dixon and the other guys won't also be great, or that the position will suddenly be a liability though. Just think though, Dixon could average 7 yards per carry next year and that would represent a drop from what ETN provided. That's just so hard to live up to.

Can do as the feature back. He’s shown plenty of flashes but has never had a chance to fully show off his skills. I think he can be very good.

Let's face an undeniable fact: We will have a dropoff at the position because ETN's production was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous!
LJD will get his chance and we'll see what happens. At some point during the season, would not be surprised to see Bowman emerge as the best runner.
Can't rule out Chez, Mikey or Rencher going to another level. It happens sometimes.

Probably wont face a similarly talented team until Nov 7 @ ND so plenty of time to work out the kinks or bring the freshmen along.

I have very little concern for the backs , I can remember people with the same concern about Wayne Gallman and he is still in the league. I do however have concern over who will be paving the way with four starting o-line graduating. Lots of talent coming but o-line needs unspoken communication that takes time to develop.
