Movies filmed in Cootlumbia based on a true story...

Apr 8, 2016, 5:03 PM

The Program. Several players from different backgrounds try to cope with the pressures of playing football at a major university. Each deals with the pressure differently, some turn to drinking, others to drugs.

Storyline (per IMDB):

A college football coach is told by his bosses that unless they do better this season it could be his last. To bolster the team he recruits a talented wide receiver. A female student is assigned to help him assimilate with college life and that includes doing his studies because he spent his whole life just playing football. And the coach has to deal with his other players' situations like the team's quarterback who deals with his father being distant by drinking and it eventually gets him in trouble. And one of the team's defensive players is obviously using steroids but passes the drug tests

I was at the game where they filmed the football scenes

the team (the Wolves?) played Michigan and GT I recall. They filmed game scenes at halftime of a SCAR-Tennessee game. They had a camera with a helmet on it and dude would weave around tacklers like he was running back a kickoff. It was actually pretty cool. Several bar scenes were shot at Yesterday's in 5 Points too.

If you watch the movie, you can see pockets of orange (UT fans) in the stands when the teams playing were wearing red (Wolves) and Mich/GT uniforms.

I was in basic training at Ft. Jackson and one weekend they took us to the theatre on base to see it. It was a pretty good movie.

the movie was basically based off of SCU. Out of the main football players they had an alcoholic QB, a player hopped up on steroids, star RB and star LB with poor academics. So it was realistic in that aspect
