Most years, would you rather finish mid-pack with little

May 19, 2012, 12:51 PM

chance of winning the conference in the Big 12 and get the extra $$$, or have a good chance of winning the ACC (assuming the ACC has a guaranteed slot in a championship playoff) and settle for less $$$?

I know that may not be the way it works out, or you may not agree that it's a likely scenario, but assuming those are the two choices . . .

  Which would you prefer?    [Results]

Mid-pack in Big 12, little chance of NC, more $$$
Good chance of winning the ACC, role in the NC picture, less $$$

If the ACC is guaranteed a slot in the playoff

May 19, 2012, 1:05 PM

theres no point in going IMO. We dont seem to be having any financial problems (top paid assistant coaches in the country, recent westzone additions, new weight room and equipment, and most recently we've started building a brand new indoor practice facility)

no financial problems???????? the dirty c$$ts out spent us by $20 mil plus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why are you basing what we do on the coots?

May 19, 2012, 1:17 PM

Thats the first problem people are having, when we stop basing everything we do on what the our friends down south are doing, the world wont look so bad.

Even though South Carolina has more money to spend, doesnt mean we are broke. We do have some of the highest paid assistants in the country, we did just add on to the westzone (and from what i understand will be adding more soon) we are building a new indoor practice facility. Clemson does not have "financial problems", we just dont have as much money as other conferences

Right now this is true....but for the future

May 19, 2012, 1:38 PM

No we will be broke and will not have the kind of money to spend of the finest facilities and get the top coaches...that will all end.

It's kind of like Alan Iverson who made $84 million but lost all of it because he couldn't manage it. It isn't about how much money you make it is how you use it that counts.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats the thought pattern of our current leaders

May 19, 2012, 1:34 PM [ in reply to If the ACC is guaranteed a slot in the playoff ]

And its a bad one. Sure we are ok right now but looking at the future of the ACC in football it looks bleak and here is why. Money and exposure. Without those two things the recruits will go elsewhere and when they do the fat lady has sung and we have turned in to a southern conference team. How will this happen you ask? First our bidding power with the major networks will drop like a rock in water. Less money from the network contracts less money for the athletic departments. Less money for the athletic departments then less money for facilities. Get the picture? Now for exposure. Do you think the in state stars are gonna play for the coots or us? They have a chance to play on the big stage in big venues against the top teams. US? Well we will get a watered down weak schedule and at the years end get a chance to play a Big East team. Yay isn't that special. If FSU bolts and Notre Dame doesn't come (0 chance in that) and we don't try to move to one of the big 4 or we do not get offered that chance then we are at the beginning of the end and you can take that to the bank. Bottom line is get use to getting our arses handed to us by the coots because it will become common place. Is it time to panic? Yes. Is it time to be proactive? Yes. If not...well then its over. Lets hope the talking heads understand all this.

Re: Most years, would you rather finish mid-pack with little

May 19, 2012, 1:06 PM

Neither. I expect Clemson to be the best they can wherever they are. And that hopefully will be the Big 12.

We have the resources to compete in the Big 12 and nationally, not be in the middle of the pack almost every year, and I think better competition week in and out will keep our boys motivated.

ACC = ACC title, National irrelevance, less $$$$$***

May 19, 2012, 1:08 PM

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we were ranked in the top 5 this season in the ACC

May 19, 2012, 1:11 PM

that seems pretty relevant to me

Re: we were ranked in the top 5 this season in the ACC

May 19, 2012, 1:23 PM

Although, some of the conference luster was dulled by the post season rankings.

Assuming the ACC did not mean national irrelevance, as per

May 19, 2012, 1:13 PM [ in reply to ACC = ACC title, National irrelevance, less $$$$$*** ]

the question, then which would you prefer?

Again, pathetic that fans would rather play in a weak conference with a chance to win b/c other teams suck than play and win with the big boys and actually earn it. Winning lots of games b/c you beat Maryland, Ball State, Furman, and Duke doesn't mean much to me honestly. The ACC is the laughing stock of college football and the BCS record proves that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some do not understand this concept

May 19, 2012, 1:42 PM

They do not understand that no one will care how many ACC championships we have because we will be akin to Conference USA. Why can they not understand the urgency of our situation? We stay in the ACC and we become irrelevant.

winning the new ACC will get us the Sun Bowl if we are lucky!! Orange bowl is left out also!

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Assuming that things stay exactly as they are - yes. But we

May 19, 2012, 1:20 PM

are seeing that things don't stay exactly as they are. The question is based upon that assumption/reality. It's what you call a "hypothetical".

The poor orange & fiesta bowl. They kind of died too didn't they.

Champions Bowl winner vs. Rose Bowl winner for the title.

SEC and BIG12 own the Champions bowl 50/50.
PAC12 vs BIG10 tied to the Rose bowl.

ACC champion goes where? Chic-fil-a bowl to play the 6th or 7th place SEC team?
