Most disappointing team added to the ACC
Jan 18, 2014, 3:34 PM

I'm going with V. Tech. After looking like a good addition originally, the football program has slipped to predictable mediocrity, the basketball team is consistently bad, and they don't bring much in terms of olympic sports. Miami is a close second, but I see their football team improving and the basketball team at least had one good season.

I would respectfully disagree. I would say that VaTech has been one of the best additions to the conference. I don't have a big problem with any of the schools added. If forced to pick the weakest addition it would be Boston College.
I would also not have accepted NotreDame as a partial member , and would have loved to have added Navy and NotreDame as full members.
Just my 2 cents.

Did you have high expectations for B.C.?

I didn't say worst, I said most disappointing. I'm not disappointed in B.C. because I had no expectations. In fact, I would say B.C. has over achieved in football with 2 division championships since joining the ACC.

Welcome to the ACC...home of the triple option

Seriously though, it would make absolutely no sense for the ACC and it would make no sense for Navy. A lose, lose, situation, so Swofford is probably on the phone right now.

Put a few trips to see a game at Navy on your bucket list. Navy has academics that are a perfect fit, they play with great heart in all sports, and draw a huge national TV audience.
I assume you would prefer someone like West Virginia or etc?

However, other than an average football team that can't recruit on a competitive level, ever...what other sports would they even be competitive in?

not sure this answers your question,but... thinking of teams that help the ACC very little in any sport...its Wake Forest. Plus, we need to get rid of some NC schools

As much as I enjoy athletics, college is really about academics.
I think all of the Universities bring something different to the table.
I am concerned that college athletics is expanding due to economics. (at the expense of alumni/fans and to the benefit of the institutions)

And won their division two other times.
Not exactly a horrible track record in the ACC

They consistently lose out of conference games. Their last decent out of conference win was 2009 against Nebraska. Since the 2009 season they have lost every big Out of conference game they have played,

That really hurts our conference perception, but V. Tech is seen as one of the best football teams in the ACC, but they get destroyed by SEC teams.

BC actually had some really good football teams with Matt Ryan. Miami has fallen well short of expectations.

Why should we care about Louisvilles academics? Are they bringing the value of your degree down? No We are talking about an athletics conference. Not the freaking quiz bowl.
If all you care about is academics then go follow the ivy league. I dont even think they give out athletic scholarships.
All UL will do is raise the brand of the ACC and get our university paid. Give it a rest. They arent the freaking University of Phoenix

Palmetto you should do some research on the University of Phoenix. I used to think the samething, until I moved to Scottsdale, about 4 years ago. It is not an online diploma mill by any stretch.

only because they should be at or near the top in football and baseball. Basketball is the only sport that has exceeded expectations.
But overall, BC is the worst athletic program added to the ACC. That first expansion should have been Syracuse, Miami and VT.

They should start sharing some of their highly recruited athletes with schools that will try.

Crippling sanctions after being thrown under the bus by Swofford in order to take attention away from the train wreck of an athletics department at UNC. Any other school gets busted doing what UNC was doing and the are toast.

True. Beamer should retire now & save some dignity. They had 9-10 wins a season for a healthy stretch but I don't see them as a top 20 team anymore either.
