Most Home Losses to the Same Team in College Football

Jul 16, 2017, 3:23 PM

Couldn't dig up Ivy League stats for this, so sticking with majors...

Tied for 15th. Pitt 29 home losses to Penn State. Vanderbilt 29 home losses to Alabama.
14th. Baylor 30 home losses to Texas.
13th. Missouri 31 home losses to Oklahoma.
7th-12th. Minnesota and Illinois each 34 home losses to Michigan. Kansas 34 home losses to Oklahoma. Kansas State 34 home losses to Nebraska. Cal and Stanford each have 34 home losses to USC.
6th-4th. Oklahoma State and Kansas State both have 36 home losses to Oklahoma. Iowa State 36 home losses to Nebraska.
3rd. Illinois 37 home losses to Ohio State.
Tied for 1st: Kansas 46 home losses to Nebraska. South Carolina 46 home losses to Clemson.

Seeing as how Nebraska and Kansas are no longer annual games, and SCar hosts us this season, we can take the crown outright come November and never look back.

Go Tigers! Make more history.

Excellent point that I forgot about, and they would like to forget about, too. There is a lot they wish they could forget.

So...if I have the math/logic right, Clemson has proven instrumental in helping the '##### be 1st in something! That might be ring-worthy for them! Good research, Dude!

Ohhhhh ... for those sort of statistics they are first in a lot of categories!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought going in that we would have a shot at the top spot

Jul 16, 2017, 5:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Most Home Losses to the Same Team in College Football ]

due to A) sheer series domination and 2) 50 straight years or something of home games for SCar during the Big Thursday era.

We were almost a runaway up until Kansas. They put a lot of teams on that list, and them and Nebraska were playing before engines were on farmland.

I wouldn't put it past Yale though to be on this list somewhere, possibly more than once. They've been playing forever, stick with a lot of the same teams over the years, and are historically excellent (890-369, .698 winning %), second in all-time wins behind Michigan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_football_teams_by_wins

It was a fun way to spend a few hours. Anything I can do for the cause.

Re: Doesn't being #1 in a negative statistic make you

Jul 17, 2017, 7:11 AM

Well 65, it is indeed fortunate for you - and obvious - you are not a coot. To be a coot, you have to be able to take stats such as this; or being the 'doormat team in the doormat division' of the sec; or losing to your in state rival by 5 points - or 49 points, or whatever, and etc., etc., then turn it into something to brag or talk smack about! The fact that you used the phrase 'a negative' would NEVER do.... hah!

And since ties are wins ( "We didn't lose!" ) in their little pea brains, the Kansas piece means nothing....

....I hear my coot cousin now:

" We're Number 1!! "

Re: Most Home Losses to the Same Team in College Football

Jul 17, 2017, 8:44 PM

You should re-check your info, Clemson has 50 wins in Columbia, not 46

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are totally corrrect.

Jul 17, 2017, 9:23 PM

It's 50 in Columbia. I relied heavily on

http://www.jhowell.net/cf/scores/ScoresIndex.htm

for comparison data. The search said 1869 but many went back to just 1900 or so, 1902 in our case. Nebraska has two extra wins in Lawrence from what I see. No other series were very close but definitely some tweaking to be done for a wholly accurate list.

So this has been going on since the turn of the century. And counting. Nice.

Cheers.
