Jamaica CV19 cases doubled in a week. It’s 85 degrees

Apr 27, 2020, 7:17 AM

in Negril. So does increased heat really lower the transmission rate? I keep reading and hearing about UV effects and how the virus dislikes heat, but I don’t know. I’ve been to Jamaica and the heat will literally zap your energy and motivation, but the virus is thriving there surprisingly.

Only Trumpers ever thought it was.

Re: only Trumpers....

Apr 27, 2020, 10:30 PM

This is a revisionist lie.

Is Pelosi a Trumper?

If Pelosi knew this bug was as dangerous as it is, do you think she would have wasted so much of our time and the media's attention on an impeachment where everyone admitted no crime had been committed?
On second thought, she might have.

Do you think Pelosi would have paraded through Chinatown like she did to prove how safe it was if she had known how rife that district was and how at-risk she was as a 79-year old with HBP?

Yesterday she actually told Jake Tapper that she would have supported American citizens from her district being banned from re-entering the country after visiting China. What a hoot!

Get your news from a balanced source.

Fact : None of us knew how bad this thing could be.

And, yes, it is a virus like the flu is a virus. That's why it doesn't respond to antibiotics. And why hydroxychloroquine only treats one of the most important symptoms but does not affect a cure.

More testing makes numbers go up.

Good point.

Tigernet has it all: Sports, News, Opinion and now weather reports for Jamaica travelers. I was not going take an airplane or cruise ship for a while anyway.

Lol!
Hey man Isn’t this like a virtual jockey lot? And last I checked, it’s open again for business!

FL data also is a good indicator.

Apr 27, 2020, 7:46 AM

My understanding is that UV will sterilize surfaces and a accelerate atmospheric breakdown but the reactions are not instantaneous. So environmental microbes and virus impacts are lessened but not eliminated.

My understanding may be a little off. Someone more knowledgeable may have better information...

Re: Your Understanding and More Knowledgeable Folks on Tnet

Apr 27, 2020, 9:38 AM

If you want clarification on your understanding of science, culture, history, or pretty much anything from the readers on Tnet, you will get the most responses by mentioning or implying a key word -- such as "Demmycrat" or "Trumpster". Then just sit back, read and "learn" in pure astonishment!!

No, you are correct. Things that matter-

Temperature (higher temps can dramatically reduce viral "lifespan" (It is not a living organism, obviously))
Humidity
Droplets (masks help!)
population density
general hygiene

A wash machine and dryer on high kills viruses off

Apr 28, 2020, 6:09 AM

Not sure how hot that is. May have to go to Columbia this summer for temperatures like that.

Doubling in a week = 175 cases

Apr 27, 2020, 10:05 AM

Their numbers are still very low compared to other places.

Actually 350, but still lower than other countries comparatively speaking.

Coronavirus does not live as long in high temperature environments, these studies have been done already. The rise in incidence probably has more to do with increased testing than anything.

I guess spit droplets don't spend much time in the sun moving from person to person.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heck, its been hotter than that here..........

Apr 27, 2020, 11:52 AM

and you’ve seen the numbers here in Fla.!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's a fact that sunlight/heat breaks down viruses.

Apr 27, 2020, 4:30 PM

Doesn't mean that it just goes away. It just doesn't live as long on outdoor surfaces in 85 degree sunlight.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It probably won't handle the heat of an autoclave very well
